I'm seeking one currently. If confirmed, anyone want to check it out to (a) drop stuff off we don't need (b) keep our eyes peeled for good fixable stuff!? // Matt

support a video library of life experience in a 17-screen exhibit – deadline tomorrow

by Danny Spitzberg

Dear friends, it's been a while, and I miss you all. Starting next Wednesday (5–7pm, right before the weekly meeting), Global Lives is hosting a month-long, 17-screen exhibit in San Francisco to host salon gatherings for broader audiences interested in global citizenship and travel, empathy and education, and film and new media, as well as field trips for Bay Area schools for workshops on empathy and global citizenship. This exhibit is part of its initiative to provide educational materials for over 400 teachers in the USA and around the world who asked for help using video as a resource in their classroom. Because I believe in the power of people speaking for themselves, I'm working with Global Lives to build their education program and broader community. And thanks to the support we received last year, Global Lives produced 8 videos within 11 months! The amazing series features a day in the life of 10 transit workers around the world. You can preview five of the films at www.globallives.org/liveintransitpreviews/ and learn more about the exhibit opportunities atwww.globallives.org/exhibitmonth2014. *Before Friday at 2PM, Global Lives needs $9,500 to put curriculum and resources in the hands of teachers and show its video library of life experience to a wide audience – please donate at www.globallives.org/donate/ <http://www.globallives.org/donate/>.* I would be humbled and thankful if you would donate to support this amazing work today. Sincerely, Danny

#Jan25: 3 years later. An educational day long program on #Egypt

by tahmina mahrzad

#Jan25: 3 years later. An educational day long program on #Egypt https://www.facebook.com/events/424246587705844/ Dear friends and supporters, As many of you probably know, the third anniversary of the Egyptian revolution is coming soon less than 2 weeks from now. We are hosting a full day educational program to mark the anniversary of the ongoing Egyptian revolution, it's a collaboration between me and local organizers and supporters here in the San Fransisco Bay area. In Egypt, the 25th of Jan this year is going to be a day of action against the continuity of military rule and the atrocities committed by the coup regime. The program will start from 3 pm and will be all night long until the last person leaves, so you're welcome to stop by any time! Program details will include but not restricted to: -Film screening of rare footage highlighting different stages of the Egyptian struggle. -Skype conversations with Egyptians in Egypt and abroad to hear their perspective on the situation. - A talk by Shimaa Helmy, an eyewitness to the Egyptian movement who's currently in Oakland, CA. - An open forum and a Q/A session on the state of affairs in Egypt since 2011 and up to date. Other activities will be included soon and added to the event page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/424246587705844/ The event is hosted by the Sudo Room hacker space 2141 Broadway St, Oakland, California 94612 I'm not sure for how long I will be in the US and I'm trying to do as much as I can here before I have to go back home. I will appreciate it if you came by or at least spread the word about the event. Much appreciation, Shimaa Helmy http://shimaa-helmy.tumblr.com/
