Hey guys, a friend of mine who works for the city of Oakland and is meeting with the ACLU on DAC stuff (to fix this nightnare) has asked me for - a coherent, semi-formal argument against the DAC. - Language against specific aspects of the DAC like the shot spotters, facial recognition, etc. What they will be used for vs what they say they will be used for, etc. What resources do we have on hand that I can forward or write up for them? Thanks! David

Poem instead of attendance at tonight's meeting.

by Max Klein

Last week tunabanas and I went to represent sudo at Southern Exposure's grantees ceremony. (We hacked the acceptance speech, and showed artists they are probably hackers too.) It got me thinking, and I wrote this poem for sudo. After and before, all the silenced outcasts leave their trace, I myself learn electronics and genetics at sudo hackerspace. Well not quite, but then intentions are there An eager post-work brain doing what it can to care. And the movement's building, more people join us to rock-it, The latest anacho-syndicalists with a California nonprofit. When only a year ago we were crash test dummies, 2 grants in a row makes us flush with ca$h monies. -notconfusing

about to strike it outta the calendar >> Art making party (post art murmur) february 7

by Romy Ilano

Hi, I just had ankle surgery so I'm not sure if I can help organize the upcoming post Art Murmur Artmaking party. *I'm about to strike it out of the calendar... * *Is anyone interested in running the event on February 7 still? * Organizing it isn't a big problem, and there are still leftover art supplies (probably in the radio room) from the last event. - At the last event the work I had to do to get it going was minimal. - People just sort of showed up with their own supplies as well, it was very collaborative. https://sudoroom.org/wiki/ArtMakingParty#February_2014 *February 7, 2014* https://sudoroom.org/ai1ec_event/art-making-party/?instance_id=78850 *SudoRoom Art Making Party* *As the Oakland Art Mrumur ends, artmaking werewolves converge on the SudoRoom hackerspace to jam to music, make art, and collaborate in all sorts of crazy werewolf ways.* *If you are an artist, performer, genius of ways to set up collaborative artmaking stations, or have films and videos to show, contact us! We’d like to see your stuff.* ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

Re: [sudo-discuss] Offer: lots of stress and little reward - seeking new maintainer for sudoor

Since it will be outside 24/7, maybe we should install a weatherized or skinnable keyboard? as if we dont, that may invite yet more keypad fails down the road - On Tuesday, January 21, 2014, Max Klein <isalix(a)gmail.com> wrote: > > > > On Tue, Jan 21, 2014 at 2:39 PM, Andrew <andrew(a)roshambomedia.com<javascript:_e({}, 'cvml', 'andrew(a)roshambomedia.com');> > > wrote: > >> "Replace the keypad with a usb-keyboard." <-- this is an awesome idea. >> Actually we can just use a usb numpad if we want to keep it simple. >> > > I actually I completely forgot, I got stole a usb 10key numpad from work > for this purpose. i'll try and bring it in this weekend, but that shouldn't > stop anyone from screwing a keyboard to the wall. > > > I'd also love to see the RFID working again, or atleast repurpuse that for > something else. Quiet work area

by Romy Snowyla

Did anyone start a quiet work area at SudoRoom? This is ideally a table where people can focus, not be interrupted, or people near this area would be mindful & not talk too loudly. I think I witnessed something like this one afternoon. Noisebridge has a similar set up.. I like it a lot, I'd like to go to sudoroom and have a small mindful area free of people's phone conversations, or be interrupted by someone pitching their political movement or solar energy start up. (I've been interrupted constantly in the past this way and this is a constructive idea to solve that problem) To the folks who had a quiet mindfulness area: could we do this again? It's a good idea and in alignment with sudoroom values;: "a hackerspace is for hacking " Sent from my iPhone
