We already got it, we picked it up on Friday. And please do not
escalate a private email to a public email without the permission of
all parties! This is very important!
If want this equipment for sudo, get in touch with the people offering it
from 3D systems. See forwarded message.
Make a great day,

Hello,
I contacted Scott Edmonds via text but I want to email as well so that you
can take advantage of this donation possibility.
We have a bunch of things that we would like to donate to hacker spaces,
not limited to the following:
We have numerous cube 2 printers that might need work to get going plus
other printers
We have a large desk that doesn’t fit our space.
There are a lot of random electronic gadgets that might be helpful.
We are having people come by tomorrow between 1 – 3PM at 431 Tehama Street.
The person who you will contact will be Marco Teran.
Let me know if someone will come by from Sudo Room, we would love to donate
some items to you.
Thanks,
Leslie

Hi all!
The last installment of Film Night was rescheduled for this week, due to...
technical difficulties.
This Friday at 7pm, I'll be showing two films entitled Nothing and
MirrorMask; two wild fantasy movies about alternate worlds.
As always, it's BYOB, but also bring your movie suggestions!
More Info:
http://wiki.omni-oakland.org/w/Event:2014/10/17_Film_Night
See you there!
~ Korl
The film screening tonight is being pushed back to 9:30.
As the Oroboros event upstairs in the ballroom will be starting soon, from
8:30 to 9:30, competeing sounds and a lack of 7:15 attendees mean whomever
wasn't able to make it ealier, but would like to come, can still see the
screening of "Nothing" by Vincenzo Natali.
Perhaps I'll see you at 9:30?
Have a good night, all!

pair programming is a great way to learn and share computer skills. It is
best practiced at a desk where both people can see the same screen, and
each other's face at the same time - and each person has their own
keyboard and mouse.
as you can see here, I made a pair programming station (with help) for us:
http://spaz.org/~jake/pix/sudo/IMG_20141010_021851.jpg
it has everything it needs except for ONE MORE USB MOUSE so if you have an
extra, bring it on. ideally a matching DELL mouse.
also, it has a bad caster wheel on it, which looks like this:
http://spaz.org/~jake/pix/sudo/IMG_20141010_022958.jpg
this is a picture of the good one. If you have a caster like this that is
not broken, please bring it in and put it on the cart.
i'm trying to make it have wireless (it's a desktop computer right now)
which means learning about openWRT, to make a wifi bridge to ethernet.
That way wherever the cart is, it will have internet with spare ethernet
ports, for your beaglebone or whatever you're hacking on to plug into.
but of course, you don't need to use the computer on the cart - you can
plug the VGA cable into your laptop and the USB cable (one for both
keyboards and mice) into your laptop, and use that.
the two monitors are hard-wired to a single VGA cable, and don't try to
change it. i had to make that cable. and the screens are screwed down.
enjoy!

Dear April ,
Thanks again for presenting at LibrePlanet 2014. The next LibrePlanet
will be held March 21-22, 2015 in Cambridge, MA, and the call for
sessions is open now through Sunday, November 2nd. I hope you will
submit a proposal for a talk, panel, workshop, or strategy session for
LibrePlanet 2015.
If you want to run any ideas by me, or have any questions about the
application, don't hesitate to be in touch. The original email with more
details is appended below. Oh, and please pass this along to your
networks if you feel so inspired--we'd be grateful!
Looking forward to your proposals,
Libby Reinish
Campaigns Manager
LibrePlanet 2015 <https://www.libreplanet.org/2015> is coming! We're
excited to announce that next year's conference will be held *March
21-22, 2015 in Cambridge, MA*. The Free Software Foundation is teaming
up with the Student Information Processing Board at MIT once again to
bring you a conference you won't want to miss. Our Call for Sessions
<https://www.libreplanet.org/2015/call_for_sessions/> is open now, and
you can also apply to volunteer
<https://www.libreplanet.org/2015/volunteer/> or exhibit
<https://www.libreplanet.org/2015/exhibit/> at LibrePlanet 2015. General
registration will open in October.
You've got until Sunday, November 2nd, 2014 at 19:59 EST (23:59 UTC) to
submit your proposals <https://www.libreplanet.org/2015/exhibit/>. We
can't wait to see what you come up with!
This year, the theme of LibrePlanet <https://www.libreplanet.org/2015>
is "Free Software Everywhere." We're looking for talks that touch on the
many places and ways that free software is used around the world, as
well as ways to make free software ubiquitous. Think "everywhere" in the
broadest sense of the word--it's not just geography-based talks we're
after. What are some contexts where free software is thriving, and some
others where it needs a push? How have you worked to gain a stronghold
for free software in your company or community? And what about free
software on all of the myriad pieces of hardware we use, including
laptops, phones, tablets, and even coffee makers? At LibrePlanet 2015,
we're taking software freedom around the world, to outer space, and
consider its role in industry, government, academia, community
organizing, and personal computing.
Should I submit a session proposal for LibrePlanet?
Yes! We encourage speakers of all experience levels to submit a
proposal. LibrePlanet is a great place for new and seasoned speakers
alike. While LibrePlanet always includes technical talks, our program
also emphasizes non-technical topics and topics that are appropriate for
newcomers. We are especially interested to see proposals from people who
use free software or apply its values for social benefit, from academic
research to community organizing, education to medicine and the arts.
LibrePlanet is committed to increasing the participation of speakers
belonging to groups traditionally underrepresented at free software
conferences, including women and people of color.
Some ideas for sessions
*
Sharing a story of how free software has been applied for social benefit
*
Tackling a threat or organizing challenge facing the free software
movement
*
Demonstrating a new and exciting piece of software or development
within an existing software project
*
Engaging youth, the future of the free software movement. We're
looking for proposals for all age groups, from young children, to
high school age, to college students
*
Thinking critically about challenges and opportunities facing the
movement, and charting a path to victory
*
Bringing a key part of free software history to life
*
Giving newcomers a way to learn about free software principles and
philosophy, and/or giving newcomers a way to start using free
software in their daily lives
At LibrePlanet, we are looking for sessions that embrace the free
software movement's ideals and also its language. For example, using
"free software" is better than using "open source".
Volunteer for LibrePlanet
LibrePlanet depends on volunteer support during the planning process all
the way through the event. We're looking for volunteers who want to help
us with the planning and preparation work for LibrePlanet. Learn more
about volunteering and sign up at LibrePlanet.org
<https://www.libreplanet.org/2015/volunteer/>.
Promotional opportunities at LibrePlanet
LibrePlanet is the perfect place to spread the word about your
organization to an inspired and engaged audience. We have two kinds of
promotional opportunities for LibrePlanet 2015: exhibit tables and
sponsorships. Exhibit tables will be located in a highly visible primary
thoroughfare. Your table and program acknowledgement will reach hundreds
of software developers, free software activists, academics, students,
and computer users. You can apply for an exhibit table at
LibrePlanet.org <https://www.libreplanet.org/2015/exhibit/> Exhibitors
will be accepted on a rolling basis until the hall fills, so apply early!
What makes LibrePlanet <https://www.libreplanet.org/2015> so special is
the amazing contributions from our speakers, exhibitors, and volunteers.
We can't wait to hear your ideas!

Hey all,
there's a 48hr live broadcast of hackathon-like happenings around the
world, HQ'd at Omni Nov 15 & 16. It's called Deconstruction (see
thedeconstruction.org) and it consists of a small crew of people on-site to
manage the video feed and possibly tour Omni.
The organizers asked me about Internet bandwidth... I haven't speed-tested
anything and figured there were folks who knew our capacity better.
Does anyone know the typical and min/max Internet upload/download heft?
Might it be >10mb? >20mb?
curious,
thanks,
Danny
