Hey all,
Has anyone been on the roof yet to check for a sight-line to the Monkey
Brains beam?
If so, please let me know! If not, I'll climb up on the roof and take a
photo
thanks

Who wants to invite them to Sudo? :)
I went to this Sunday's kitchen working group meeting. Some things to know:
1/3 of the industrial stove is working. The other 2/3 needs new parts
which Joe can get for the very discounted price of $300. I propose
that Omni collectives pay for this since we will be using it a lot.
They are working on replacing the large water boiler with a tiny
instant heater, cutting & rotating the large metal basin sink, and
installing the 3-basin sink from Noisebridge via CCL between that and
the stove.
They would like to open up the northwest part of the room by
disassembling the old shelves & countertops, and removing the
street-facing drywall to expose the windows hidden behind them.
Does anybody know if the landlords have been notified of this kitchen
work yet? Do we need to write up more detailed plans before doing this
stuff?
The downstairs kitchen will not have room for any of our appliances
from upstairs such as fridges or stoves. FNB cooks are already
concerned about space being too tight. We will have to keep the
fridges out in the basement common area, or somewhere else in the
building. We may not need the electric stoves once the wolf range is
fully lit. Joe will find another home for the chest freezer, as it
belonged to him and apparently nobody has used it here.
Hey friends,
Reaching out again - who should I contact to get the info for our account
w/Sonic? I know Sudo has been footing this bill but perhaps Omni should
take it over.
The cafe would like to add a phone line so, at the very least, we'd like to
contribute to the expense for this service. Makes sense to us to use the
existing service rather than setting up a new one.
Thanks, in advance, for pointing me in the right direction!

I was checking back on this thread, and I realized I made a grave
error. I sent my reply to the board list, but not sudo-discuss, and
Whitney is not on the board list. Sorry Whitney! Here is my reply with
the info you asked from 4 months ago. >.<

Thanks Whitney! I am definitely interested in getting this done ASAP.

Sudoroom incorporated last year as a California Nonprofit, which is
structured with the intent to apply for federal 501c3. This year we
officially decided to do it, after many months of arguing over whether
other subsections (501c4, etc) were a better fit. But we never
actually followed up with the IRS. We still have to file our 1023 to
officially ask for 501c3 status. THEN begins the multi-year process of
waiting for approval. But we haven't even entered the waiting room
yet.
It's a very long-standing action item. Let's do it!

Bumping this. Legally, the board needs to meet once per year, there's
a lot of people we need to get in the same room, and we're running out
of year. So let's maybe schedule something now? I think it should be a
Wednesday at 7pm to coincide with the general Sudo meeting. I made a
doodle with every Wednesday for the rest of the year:

Everybody on the board, please check the Wednesdays that work for you. Thanks!
Last night, Sunday Oct. 12th at about 11:30 PM about four of us were
sitting outside omni on the chairs behind the stop sign.
A few people came up on a diagonal path toward us, but many of them did
not seem headed toward us. One person seemed to be pulling or pushing
another younger person with him, and they were headed closest to us.
Then this guy started acting weird, stuck both of his hands deep into his
pants (which were very loose) and started moving in and out of peoples
personal spaces. He said something i don't remember, and I asked him what
he was doing. but then he said "How much money y'all got?"
everyone answered "none, we don't have any money." making it clear that
we were not intimidated. He said he was going to "blast" the place up,
trying to suggest that he had a gun and he was going to start shooting.
I don't think any of the other people in his group were supporting his
actions, at least they were not close to us. Maybe the small person he
had been pushing/pulling but i don't remember.
Then he started getting in my personal space, and I thought that he might
try something physical with us, or try to grab someone's bag (like mine)
so the next time he moved back, I jumped up and ran inside the omni,
yelling "I AM CALLING THE POLICE!" out the door. I think he moved to grab
or follow me inside, but the others outside stood up and complicated
things for him.
I ran inside and stashed my bag and told people inside to come outside
right away. Someone grabbed a fire extinguisher in case a weapon was
needed, but when we got outside he was already leaving I think.
The point is, we should discuss best practices in situations like these,
and also discuss a sign that should be placed inside the omni advising
people who will be sitting outside to prepare for this type of situation.
probably a sign reminding people of the possibility of this or worse
happening, and a suggestion to avoid being alone outside, especially with
your laptop or phone out, especially late at night, unless you are aware
and prepared for what might happen.
this situation worked out well enough, but it could have gone differently.
this certainly will not be the last time something like this happens.

this is happening! a great example of empowered people using creativity
to solve problems. The bees do intense research on subjects like
mountaintop removal coal mining and now, California Water Politics (which
i haven't seen yet) and then they make a giant poster with compelling
artwork that makes it easy to see the big picture.

Subject: Bees swarm Bay Area with new graphic and tour! Oct 19-21
PLEASE FORWARD!
We have some exciting news: the Bees will be swarming the Bay Area with a new graphic and tour focused on California water politics in the midst of a
massive drought. Sucked Dry: Examining Drought and Privatization from Mesoamérica to California, draws inspiration from struggles against large-scale
infrastructure projects throughout MesoAmerica, connecting local and the global struggle for control and protection of water.
Oct 19: 2pm Dolores Park, SF
Oct 20: 6:30pm Greenpeace warehouse, 955 7th St., W. Oakland co-sponsored by Rising Tide
Oct 21: 5:30pm Gill Tract Farm, Albany (at the intersection of Marin & San Pablo) co-sponsored by Food & Water Watch & California Student
Sustainability Coalition
About the tour:
California is in the midst of a historical drought, the most severe the region has had in the last 500 years. This water crisis has devastated resources,
with several communities facing the prospect of running dry. A number of projects advocating infrastructure development such as the BDCP and Prop 1 have
been proposed as solutions for the state, but are they truly in the interests for all? What are their impacts to our drying rivers and reservoirs?
Fisheries and communities? Drawing inspiration from struggles against large-scale infrastructure projects throughout MesoAmerica, the Bees will take you
on a visual journey touching on the local and the global struggle for control and protection of water.
We will also be introducing a *brand new graphic* (still in draft form) that deals specifically with the fight to stop the Tunnel project that threatens
the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta
About the Bees
Based out of small-town Machias across the country in rural Maine, the Beehive Design Collective is an all-volunteer organization of activists, artists,
educators and organizers. Our main focus is creating and presenting graphic works about global issues internationally. These portable murals are teeming
with intricate images of plants and animals, illustrating surreal but meticulously researched scenes of sociocultural realities in the modern world. Not
only are our graphics detailed, beautiful works of art, but they also are tools in understanding the big picture of a region's struggles.
