Turns out my parents are only visiting for 4 days, so I shouldn't have
volunteered myself to work as an outdoor watch tomorrow. I'm really sorry
about this :( Is anyone else available to be around tomorrow evening?

November 8 is Aaron Swartz Day (Aaron's birthday) (
http://www.aaronswartzday.org) and folks are hosting hackathons in many
cities. I knew Aaron when he was a kid helping with RSS and other
protocols. A more recent friend of his, Lisa Rein, asked me if Sudo Room
would host the Sunday part (9 Nov) of the San Francisco hackathon. So...
1. Are you interested in attending? In hosting/facilitating?
2. Availability/use of Sudo's and Omni commons spaces for hackathon
purposes? On Sunday I see "Phat Beets is going to have an event to
highlight their youth program! They will need 4 hours in the ballroom (yet
to be set in stone). They are paying to rent the space." Is this a conflict?
http://omnicommons.org/wiki/Event:2014/11/09_RENTAL_Phat_Beets
3. Is our network ready for a few dozen concurrent demanding users? All of
the building or just some parts?
4. Ideas for food sponsors for the event?

P.S. Aaron Swartz was an American computer programmer, writer, political
organizer and Internet Hacktivist. He died last year. If you use creative
commons art, blogs and feeds, markdown, Reddit, or open data, a bit of
Aaron lives on. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Swartz

Or ... it could be a halloween party. How about that? Technofuturist
robots, cool, yay. I'm down.
Tonight at Omni Film Night (in the basement) we'll be hacking a Hacker
night!
We'll be showing the new documentary, 'The Internet's Own Boy' followed by
a discussion about Aaron Swartz, the state of information in the digital
age, the word "Hacker", and more.
Any and all are welcome to come and join the discussion.
To end the night on a light note, we'll also feature the 1995 movie
'Hackers'.
As always, it's BYO(Drinks, Snacks, Pillows, Blankets, etc), but popcorn
and tea will be provided.
The first movie starts around 7:15, so don't be late!
Hope to see you there :)

Subject: Editing meetup at Double Union on Sunday October 26, 4-6 pm
To: SFLocalWiki(a)googlegroups.com
Hi everyone! Our first SF LocalWiki editathon at Double Union in August was
fun, so let's do another one on Sunday afternoon from 4-6 pm or so (we
could extend it a little earlier or later if that's easier for anyone).
Here's a blog post with details about how to visit the space, which is a
few blocks from the 16th Street BART station:
http://doubleunion.tumblr.com/post/100591807764/san-francisco-localwiki-edi…
The second part of the post proposes a theme - feminist, women-centered,
queer-centered, and/or trans-centered spaces and history in San Francisco.
It includes a bunch of links to local history materials that I've been
excited about. The area around 16th & Valencia is really rich in
interesting stories, and it makes a lot of sense for Double Union to help
bring them out and share them. :)
A related thing I've been doing is sending article links to the Mission
Mission neighborhood blog, which sometimes publishes them:
http://www.missionmission.org/2014/07/29/about-that-old-police-station/ +
http://www.missionmission.org/2014/08/25/about-that-big-hulking-building-th…
The San Francisco subreddit can also be a good place to post individual
articles that are likely to appeal to a broad audience:
http://www.reddit.com/r/sanfrancisco/comments/2c5gpz/old_mission_police_sta…
+
http://www.reddit.com/r/sanfrancisco/comments/2ee6gt/ever_curious_what_that…
This shares the information with more people (yay!), and sometimes you get
great comments with tips that you can integrate into the articles. It could
be fun to aim for writing more articles that could be distributed like this.

Looks fun! Right now the way to book events is:
1) check the calendar for conflicts: https://omnicommons.org/wiki/Calendar
2) submit this form: bit.ly/omniballroom
Full explanation and future changes to the process will go here:
