Seeking old school Video camera or CRT with composite / rca

by James Sundquist

Hey all, I'm looking for RCA / Composite / BNC gear for a video diy project. Wondering if you might have: - a small CRT monitor (less than 10" would be amazing) with composite or BNC - camcorder of some kind with yellow composite This sort of gear was normal back in the VCR days. I've been digging yellow composite cables out of ewaste. Any guidance appreciated! Composite - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composite_video BNC - https://www.wiringo.com/bnc-cable.html

[omni-consensus] FIRST DRAFT PROPOSAL: Village of Love

by Jake

Hi Sudoroom members, We will have to send our delegate (me) to the delegates' meeting in two weeks with a position on the following proposal to operate a day center in the basement of Omni, as described here: https://omnicommons.org/pipermail/consensus/attachments/20220505/d539bbca/a… When I first heard about this idea, I didn't think it would be practical, but having been in the delegates' meeting and tonight having heard directly from Joey who is leading this operation, I'm confident that it will be a positive use of the space, and in line with the common values that Omni collectives share. Also, this proposal will significantly increase the chances that we'll not lose the building in 210 days when the baloon mortgage comes due, as the money coming in from Village Of Love will help us present as a viable operation to banks considering giving us a loan. I know we don't want to make decisions based purely on money, or purely because we want to keep the Omni, so I think it's great that this proposal seems to me like it's going to be a good thing. If sudoroom members have specific questions or concerns about this proposal, speak up now so that we can start the process of addressing them. If nobody has anything to say about it, like what happened with MOP, I will represent that Sudoroom is in favor of this proposal Forwarded below is some context, and a link to the meeting notes from the latest delegates' meeting discussing this proposal. -jake ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Thu, 5 May 2022 21:54:56 -0700 From: Yardena Cohen <yardenack(a)gmail.com> To: consensus <consensus(a)lists.omnicommons.org> Subject: Re: [omni-consensus] FIRST DRAFT PROPOSAL: Village of Love Update: a few points were clarified at tonight's delegates meeting https://omnicommons.org/wiki/Event:2022/05/05_Delegates#vol VOL's initial proposal is to pay a total of $1800/mo beginning June 1, for these four existing basement rooms: 1) The former FYE room 2) The room next to that, currently used as FNB storage 3) The room next to that, formerly Liberated Lens 4) The larger enclosed space which joins all the above rooms For the first few months (June, July, August) VOL would also like to use the entrance hall during their operating hours (10-3 M-F). Their use would be compatible with the free store and with ANV. Once we finish building the new basement room (approved 4/21) they would like to pay $800/mo for that as well. Once all construction finishes in that area of the basement, they would also like to pay $400/mo to occupy and curate the open space adjacent to these two rooms. These could come as separate proposals, but it'd be good for delegates to agree to the broad outline if possible. At that point, their total would be $3000/month. Meeting summary for Weds. May 4

by Andrew R Gross

Last night's meeting was very productive. Here are the highlights: *1) Juliana is planning a Women & Non-binary Hack & Code night on Mondays.* She's going to tour the space next week to get familiar with it, and hopefully hold an event on Monday, May 16. If you're a woman or NB and you want to see more events like this, introduce yourself to Juliana and make a plan to stop by with friends! *2) Imma shared the confusion and frustration a new member collective joining Omni Commons felt *regarding the terms of their incorporation into Omni, and we discussed ways to improve that process. *3) Proposal: Code of Conduct* Since it was proposed that we adopt a new code of conduct and update our statements of purpose and values, there has been a lot of drafting, and the result looks pretty great: About - Sudo Room <https://sudoroom.org/wiki/About>. I proposed that we codify this draft as final. So if you want to object, do so, otherwise we'll adopt this text as official at the next meeting. *4) Laser cutting* Arthur and I are going to figure out how to use the laser cutter. Join in if you want to learn too! Details here: Big red laser cutter - Sudo Room <https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Big_red_laser_cutter> *5) Show-N-Tell* I made Frenchie's cat flag from the show "Our Flag Means Death". I highly recommend it. It's funny and also makes for some incredible drama. It's also pretty fucking radical in some ways. Watch it so I have more people to talk about this with! *Notes:* Meeting Notes 2022-05-04 - Sudo Room <https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Meeting_Notes_2022-05-04> <https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Meeting_Notes_2022-05-04> *Andrew R Gross, (he/him)* 412.657.5332 - shrad.org <http://www.shrad.org>

learning to use the laser cutter

by Arthur Ulfeldt

is there some patient human (or equivalent) here that can teach me how to use the laser cutter? I know almost nothing about such machines beyond a solid theoretical understanding of how it works. I'm looking for a class or elmer to teach me how one really uses such machines.

chatting about SudoRoom + Omni commons at the last Noisebridge five minutes of fame

by Romy Ilano

Carl and I spoke at the last Noisebridge five minutes of fame - (the april 2022 edition!) Pt 1: https://youtu.be/fGNGWw4Q9Ek Pt 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TeRN5PwKuQ I mean, obviously I talked about the light projector project I've been working on, that I've received so much help on. But then I showed how I was experimenting in the Omni Commons ballroom, and I emphasized how SudoRoom has this very unique environment in the SF Bay Area -- a place where artists can jam alongside hardcore hardware hackers, and we have a lot of beautiful space to experiment. I couldn't make it to tonight's Hardware Hack night, but I think I'll do a blog post about my project so far (the bike party) and my next steps, which involve making a series of mobile apps to help do skew and distort. There is of course math involved, so there can be small math worksheets! ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

Re: Proposal: Should we adopt a code of conduct and statement of intent?

by Eric O'Connor

Yeah, I agree that with the values and purpose/intent it’s more important to be specific. Especially because I think the stated intent (based on sudoroom’s wiki: social change, community engagement, etc.) is actually quite a bit more ambitious relative to, say, Noisebridge, whose vision statement is (paraphrasing) “provide infrastructure and opportunities for people interested in <various art/technology topics>”. What does openness and “hack the planet” mean to you? Why are those things important as values? Are those things also our intent, or is there a separate mission/purpose? For instance, I think articulating what openness means, and what what it means to hack the planet, and why, and in the pursuit of what outcome. But again, I’d say they’re good enough that I’d support them as is if others wanted to take the path of least resistance. > > On Sun, Apr 10, 2022 at 9:33 AM Eric O'Connor <eric(a)oco.nnor.org> wrote: >> Here’s some resources from Sudoroom’s wiki and other hacker/maker space pages that could be useful reference material. >> >> I like how Noisebridge has a specific guidelines on community norms. >> >> How is sudoroom’s purpose different from these other communities? >> Part of it might just be a geographical niche, but there are probably intentional cultural differences as well? Wednesday meeting

by Andrew R Gross

Hi everyone, Tonight is Wednesday, which means Sudo Room holds its weekly meeting from 8-9. I'm struggling to catch up on work and housekeeping because my husband has COVID, so I don't know whether I can make it to tonight's meeting, and I don't have the time to compose an agenda, but there's lots of activity in the recent email chains, so I encourage people to show up and continue planning out events and ways to bring in new activity to Sudo Room. Cheers, *Andrew R Gross, (he/him)* 412.657.5332 - shrad.org <http://www.shrad.org>

How do I widen the hole in a hardened steel bike trailer mount (or work around it)?

by Andrew R Gross

I bought a really nice bike trailer I'm so excited to use, but the mounting bracket hole is too small for the axle, and the mounting bracket is made of hardened cast steel. I have a crappy cheap bike trailer that had the same issue, and I was able to widen the hole with a hand drill, but this new one I couldn't make a dent in with a drill press. I need advice. Can I drill it? If so, how? Can I mill it or turn it? If so, how? Does anyone know of a machinist who can do this, or can anyone do this themselves for compensation? Is it possible to replace this with another one that fits the axle? Or make and adapter that fits the mounting bracket and the axle? The bike is electric, so the axle contains wires and can't be replaced, as far as I know. Any advice would be appreciated. I really want to use this. *Andrew R Gross, (he/him)* 412.657.5332 - shrad.org <http://www.shrad.org>
