[omni-consensus] Myriad Outreach Project proposal

by Jake

please see the PDF of the Myriad Outreach Project's proposal to join Omni Commons as a member collective, it's two pages and we (sudoroom) will need to reach a decision about it, as Sudoroom is a member collective of the Omni Commons and gets a say in these decisions. here is the PDF they sent: https://omnicommons.org/pipermail/consensus/attachments/20220420/f580c03d/a… This email is the start of a thread about this proposal! -jake ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Wed, 20 Apr 2022 21:08:42 -0700 From: Michael Sierra <myriadoutreachproject(a)gmail.com> To: consensus(a)omnicommons.org, discuss(a)omnicommons.org Subject: [omni-consensus] Omni Commons Proposal Omni, It was great meeting you all at the last meeting. Attached is our proposal to become a member collective. Thank you so much for the consideration we look forward to working with you! Warmly, Michael Sierra 925-303-3036

oh wow I'll showcase sudoroom hardware hack night at the Noisebridge 5 minutes of fame tomorrow night!

by Romy Ilano

Noisebridge is having their five minutes of fame tomorrow (April 21st). I'm going to showcase not only my light projector projects, but also how hanging out at SudoRoom hardware hack night helped me get stuff going My big theme will be - we learn best by project based learning, especially if I don't have to learn for the sake of school or a job Project based learning is the best way for me to retain knowledge I was thinking of learning math, and by doing a project like the light projection art, this is really the way for me to learn math and let it stick! It's sort of like how the people who program games learn their algorithms the best of all versus people who do algorithms just for leetcode and job interviews ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

sudoRoom as a place you show up and do art - an artist's experimental place

by Romy Ilano

Hmm I think I'm going to make a flyer - SudoRoom is a pseudo artist hang out. A place where you can experiment and refine your art. You're not just there to go to a party, a talk or a class, your'e also there to just show up and continue your project and this is what will compel you to learn long run! So as I said, I spoke to Paige and that's what makes us special! https://www.flickr.com/photos/miromi/52016903456/in/dateposted/ Oh yeah I also found this art during my last visit. It's really cool? Does anyone know who made it? How do you ge the laser cutter to be so nice and then paint it so swell? are they expert model painters? ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

A new massive projector donated to SudoRoom

by Romy Ilano

We have a 14,000 lumen sanyo projector that was donated to SudoRoom. This thing is bright enough to play in office light and possibly even daylight! It's so cool, thanks to Jake and the others for bringing this baby. We were able to find a DVI HDMI cable, and we tested projecting some Kara walker on the walls. https://www.flickr.com/photos/miromi/52015867232/in/dateposted/ I mean, if we can project this even in a bright room, this would be really cool! It's fun to hack alongside others instead of being exiled to the ballroom. Projector + viewer movement Another thought hit me - some people suggested making an interactive kinect camera that projects upon people in front of the projector. these are cool experiments have been popular in the past, and you see them in full immersion rooms in museums. There is even a kinect at SudoRoom! But I just realized that modern smartphones (android and ios) are so powerful that it's typical for them to have body tracking algorithms with the camera so we could code projectons and animaions with just a standrad cell phone attached. I think there's also a use for kinect if we need it, but it's not as hard as it used to be. Face trackinga on android https://developers.google.com/ar/develop/augmented-faces Capturing body motion ios https://developer.apple.com/documentation/arkit/content_anchors/capturing_b… I think I'm a mobile developer by trade, and i think it hedges me in, but what's nice is that we can get something cool up quickly, and with these frameworks there doesn'te ven need to be a network connection or any weird connection to a networked API. It was also rad just looking at the Kara Walker projection. A lot of the innovation in environment art, conceptual art and augmented reality even has been experimented on by artists like Kara Walker https://art21.org/read/kara-walker-projecting-fictions-insurrection-our-too… Her Insurrection piece is really rad! I have also been looking at art by Jacolby Satterwhite. https://art21.org/read/the-tactile-technological-touch-of-jacolby-satterwhi… Imagine if we used the light projections to create a different sudoroom environment every time people came in! Like there's a theme every week! I think that would be cool, instaed of creating this event that's sort of divoced from our routine at the hardware hacknight! ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

starting an engineering daybook, some progress, and more ideas for future projects

by Romy Ilano

I realized that over the years at SudoRoom, it was always important for me to write down what I was doing. But I never had a proper engineering daybook! Even though I learned so much here! So going forward, I'm going to keep a personal daybook. I think it will help me with my blog posts, as I tend to take notes as cartoons https://www.flickr.com/photos/miromi/52017624127/in/photostream/ Here's a sneak peek at my next blog posts. I'm very interested in communicating what I learn through projects - and I think it's very attractive to mention that I started with an idea, came consistently to the hardware hack nights, got inspiration and tons of advice and even guidance! and just kept at it. I think the theme of my next blog post is "There's a wonderful power in just showing up consistently!" And then also highlight how the entire SudoRoom (well not the whole thing) was out at the east bay bike party, getting involved! It was really cool, and when I finish my cartoon I will show how I got to do part of my project and get inspired by ideas! https://www.flickr.com/photos/miromi/52019179120/in/photostream/ Third, I'm survyeing my involvement with sudoroom over the years and I never really accomplished or learned as much by simply atending classes -it was more working on a project, maybe a project that was inspired by a class, that I really have information that sank in. So wow thanks for he ride so far! I'm having so much fun! The engineering daybook and learning through projects is my thing for he next phase of my invovlement in sudoroom. I'm wondering if I can even make pdf files for people to do their own sudoroom themes daybook! ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

Re: [omni-consensus] WCK/CLP intro (fwd)

by Jake

I sent this out before and I didn't get any objections, so I will represent sudoroom as being apathetic or in-support of this proposal unless I hear otherwise. Do not take this as encouragement to object to this great proposal :) -sudoroom delegate Jake ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 19 Apr 2022 20:27:41 -0700 From: Yardena Cohen <yardenack(a)gmail.com> To: consensus <consensus(a)lists.omnicommons.org> Subject: Re: [omni-consensus] WCK/CLP intro Reminder to delegates: please be ready this Thursday to share your groups' positions on CLP joining omni! last chance for objections to this proposal, otherwise I will say that I believe Sudoroom is in support of the proposal. We did not reach sudo-quorum (7 members) but i have heard positive sentiments and no objections. we can discuss it at the meeting tomorrow night but for god sakes please lets not -jake ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 19 Apr 2022 20:25:10 -0700 From: Yardena Cohen <yardenack(a)gmail.com> To: consensus(a)omnicommons.org Subject: Re: [omni-consensus] [omni-discuss] Building Community Collective Proposal to Join Omni Commons This proposal came in at 7pm during the last delegates meeting but we didn't have time to discuss it then. Hardware Hacking Tuesday tonight

by Jake

Hi everyone, you're getting this email either because you're on the sudoroom discuss email list, or because I BCC'd you directly. Tonight I'll be hosting Sudoroom for those who want to come hack on whatever in person, or through telepresence of any means you can invoke. Remember that Omni Commons and Sudoroom policy is presently that EVERYONE MUST WEAR A MASK AT ALL TIMES INSIDE THE BUILDING. (if you want to eat something you should go outside) in the past few weeks, we've had about 5-15 people over the course of the evening, not including remote participants who logged in through the telescreen. Jenny put it on the Omni calendar: https://omnicommons.org/blog/events/hardware-hack-night-3-2022-03-01/ Here it is on the sudoroom page: https://sudoroom.org/events/hardware-hack-night-2022-02-15/ I try to be there by 7pm but you can show up earlier and people might already be there! if you get to the door (at the corner of 48th and shattuck) and you can't get in, call me or someone else who's there to let you in! Email me if you don't have my phone number. Actually a great way to get our attention is to join the video chat link at the end of this email! We don't always hear the doorbell and I don't answer it after 10PM anyway because of diminishing returns :) You should get on this sudoroom discuss mailinglist! click here: https://sudoroom.org/lists/postorius/lists/sudo-discuss.sudoroom.org/ and you should donate to sudoroom, monthly, by signing up here: https://sudoroom.org/humans and if you want to make a one-time donation, you can go here: https://sudoroom.org/donate if you can't make it, join the jitsi videochat with the room, and chat with each other as well as a giant TV screen/speakerphone on the wall of the space: https://meet.waag.org/turtlesturtlesturtles (don't worry if you're the only one in the "room", others will join eventually, and if the camera is pointed at the floor, just yell until someone comes and talks to you and then ask them to aim it back up into the room) see you soon! -jake
