I just received the same notice from the State of California Franchise Tax
Board for Sudo Mesh as well.
See below for how we're dealing with this for sudo room.

Subject: Submitting Tax Information to State of California by Nov 7
To: sudo-discuss <sudo-discuss(a)lists.sudoroom.org>, Board of Responsiblity
and Little Power <board(a)lists.sudoroom.org>
We received a notice from the State of California Franchise Tax Board,
notifying us that (since we have yet to submit or complete our 501(c)3
application) we must fill out state form 3500 to convince California not to
levy state taxes for last year, 2013.
I've filled out this form to the best of my knowledge so far, but it is
incomplete. It needs some more attention. See attached:
"state_tax_form_3500_sudo_room.pdf"
which should have saved my submitted values to many of the required fields.
We need a few things:
1. Review what I've already added (make sure dates and such are correct!)
2. Complete the rest of the form to the best of our ability
3. See if any lawyerly advice can help us ensure this goes smoothly
4. *Submit before Friday November 7* (30 days from October 9, 2014)
"Send us either your tax exempt letter, Form 3500, Form 3500A, or Form 100
with a copy of this letter within the next 30 days or we may issue a tax
assessment based on available information. A penalty of 25% of the
additional tax may be assessed for failure to provide information upon
written request."

I am interested in Mesh Networking …..
I am working with some guys ( generic ) in California …. bitseed.org
This is how I heard about your Matrix-like building.
I would like to collaborate on….
== methods of rapid installation ( including emergency installations )
== long links ( 10, 20, 30 or more kilometers ) with low latency
== tools for analytics , network simulation
I am an OpenIP kind of guy. Hardware & Software

Tonight I'd like to talk about how we talk about security and privacy.
There's a lot of misinfo about mesh networks being a solution to
surveillance, and I think it's important we come up with a statement on the
subject that's clear and concise.
The Einstein for Oakland campaign wants to come out in support of sudo
mesh, which I think would be great coverage for the project - so long as
it's framed in a way that's not misleading!
There's also a bunch of outstanding action items, so I'll be there early
working on stuff if anyone would like to join.
Add to the agenda here! https://pad.riseup.net/p/sudomesh

Hey mesh folks
I added things to the mesh video script about *surveillance* and how the
mesh allows to build *our own content and apps* instead of using an
internet *curated by large corporations*.
i know it's all delicate to talk about but i believe that it's important to
talk about these things in the video, because it will catch people's
interest and touch their political sensitivity.
I try to be subtle about it though! I do have in mind that "you should
never trust the network", and i try to convey things in their complexity.
I'd like your impression and input!
here it is, changes are in bold, because we must be bold!

Dear April ,
Thanks again for presenting at LibrePlanet 2014. The next LibrePlanet will
be held March 21-22, 2015 in Cambridge, MA, and the call for sessions is
open now through Sunday, November 2nd. I hope you will submit a proposal
for a talk, panel, workshop, or strategy session for LibrePlanet 2015.
If you want to run any ideas by me, or have any questions about the
application, don't hesitate to be in touch. The original email with more
details is appended below. Oh, and please pass this along to your networks
if you feel so inspired--we'd be grateful!
Looking forward to your proposals,
Libby Reinish
Campaigns Manager
LibrePlanet 2015 <https://www.libreplanet.org/2015> is coming! We're
excited to announce that next year's conference will be held *March 21-22,
2015 in Cambridge, MA*. The Free Software Foundation is teaming up with the
Student Information Processing Board at MIT once again to bring you a
conference you won't want to miss. Our Call for Sessions
<https://www.libreplanet.org/2015/call_for_sessions/> is open now, and you
can also apply to volunteer <https://www.libreplanet.org/2015/volunteer/>
or exhibit <https://www.libreplanet.org/2015/exhibit/> at LibrePlanet 2015.
General registration will open in October.
You've got until Sunday, November 2nd, 2014 at 19:59 EST (23:59 UTC) to submit
your proposals <https://www.libreplanet.org/2015/exhibit/>. We can't wait
to see what you come up with!
This year, the theme of LibrePlanet <https://www.libreplanet.org/2015> is
"Free Software Everywhere." We're looking for talks that touch on the many
places and ways that free software is used around the world, as well as
ways to make free software ubiquitous. Think "everywhere" in the broadest
sense of the word--it's not just geography-based talks we're after. What
are some contexts where free software is thriving, and some others where it
needs a push? How have you worked to gain a stronghold for free software in
your company or community? And what about free software on all of the
myriad pieces of hardware we use, including laptops, phones, tablets, and
even coffee makers? At LibrePlanet 2015, we're taking software freedom
around the world, to outer space, and consider its role in industry,
government, academia, community organizing, and personal computing.
Should I submit a session proposal for LibrePlanet?
Yes! We encourage speakers of all experience levels to submit a proposal.
LibrePlanet is a great place for new and seasoned speakers alike. While
LibrePlanet always includes technical talks, our program also emphasizes
non-technical topics and topics that are appropriate for newcomers. We are
especially interested to see proposals from people who use free software or
apply its values for social benefit, from academic research to community
organizing, education to medicine and the arts. LibrePlanet is committed to
increasing the participation of speakers belonging to groups traditionally
underrepresented at free software conferences, including women and people
of color.
Some ideas for sessions
-
Sharing a story of how free software has been applied for social benefit
-
Tackling a threat or organizing challenge facing the free software
movement
-
Demonstrating a new and exciting piece of software or development within
an existing software project
-
Engaging youth, the future of the free software movement. We're looking
for proposals for all age groups, from young children, to high school age,
to college students
-
Thinking critically about challenges and opportunities facing the
movement, and charting a path to victory
-
Bringing a key part of free software history to life
-
Giving newcomers a way to learn about free software principles and
philosophy, and/or giving newcomers a way to start using free software in
their daily lives
At LibrePlanet, we are looking for sessions that embrace the free software
movement's ideals and also its language. For example, using "free software"
is better than using "open source".
Volunteer for LibrePlanet
LibrePlanet depends on volunteer support during the planning process all
the way through the event. We're looking for volunteers who want to help us
with the planning and preparation work for LibrePlanet. Learn more about
volunteering and sign up at LibrePlanet.org
<https://www.libreplanet.org/2015/volunteer/>.
Promotional opportunities at LibrePlanet
LibrePlanet is the perfect place to spread the word about your organization
to an inspired and engaged audience. We have two kinds of promotional
opportunities for LibrePlanet 2015: exhibit tables and sponsorships.
Exhibit tables will be located in a highly visible primary thoroughfare.
Your table and program acknowledgement will reach hundreds of software
developers, free software activists, academics, students, and computer
users. You can apply for an exhibit table at LibrePlanet.org
<https://www.libreplanet.org/2015/exhibit/> Exhibitors will be accepted on
a rolling basis until the hall fills, so apply early!
What makes LibrePlanet <https://www.libreplanet.org/2015> so special is the
amazing contributions from our speakers, exhibitors, and volunteers. We
can't wait to hear your ideas!

Hey all,
In my research for mesh outreach and collaboration (particularly
focusing on the Internet archive tower in Richmond), I ran into
Building Blocks for Kids. They are an organization formed with the
"mission of supporting the healthy development and education of all
children, and the self-sufficiency of all families, living in the BBK
Collaborative zone located in Richmond, California."
Part of their focus is on digital literacy and access and they are
currently looking to hire someone to lead this portion.
More info about the position:
http://bbk-richmond.org/staff/employment-opportunities/
They've already set up a couple of repeaters to spread the Internet
archive wifi access and have funding to set up many more as far as I
know. In the end, however, that makes all of these families dependent
on the tower so Peoples Open Network could help relieve this
dependency by meshing with those who can already afford Internet
access in their home.
Anyways, good opportunity for someone at Sudo looking for work as well
as further pushing this idea of them working with the mesh instead of
just setting up repeaters.
Cheers -
Paige

Hey Meshies!
I'm at home building SudoWrt for Barrier Breaker and eating a little food.
Hopefully I'll be over around 8 with a BB firmware for testing on a couple
pico and nanostations.
