I made a little app and set up one of the old One Laptop Per Child computers to show the next five upcoming omni events in the next 24 hours. The idea is to mount it on the outside of omni as a sort of menu of the day's upcoming events :) The OLPC laptop is good for this because it has a special screen that turns reflective when there's lots of light. It is fully readable both at night and in the harshest California sun. Here's a photo: https://imgur.com/wRLir3a Here's the little web app (it's formatted for the smaller OLPC display): https://omnicommons.org/events-olpc/ Here's the code and write-up: https://github.com/sudoroom/omni-olpc-events Now we just need a box with a thick layer of transparent acrylic to house it. Anyone up for making one? -- marc/juul

Needing someone with Switching and Routing experience

by danarauz＠gmail.com

Hellos, We have physically connected two switches: HP and Cisco (I believe), via CAT6 cable. One switch is located at the Server Area and the other on the second floor (which will be used to connect computers that can be used by the public in general). THE CALL: The layer one part is done, but I feel that someone else with more switching/routing knowledge than me should check this two switches for any possible misconfiguration. I am not keen on this, but I could help someone that can lead this part. Please let me know if someone else already done this, so I can drop this part and continue with the rest of things that need to be done on the second floor. Thanks in advance, Daniel On Sun, Jul 5, 2015 at 10:36 PM, danarauz(a)gmail.com <danarauz(a)gmail.com> wrote: > The two switches light up today (Sunday). > One of the termination had to be redone. > > > > > > On Sat, Jul 4, 2015 at 9:59 PM, danarauz(a)gmail.com <danarauz(a)gmail.com> > wrote: > >> Juul: Yes, I am excited that we are getting this done. >> >> Anyways, the good news: The HP switch is up on the column and its powered >> up. >> >> The cable that comes from the building entrance's door was terminated and >> its connected to the Switch in the second floor area. 2nd Floor - Server area cable done + Relocating HP 24 port switch

by danarauz＠gmail.com

Okay folks, the run from the second floor (where the public computers area) to the server area has been done. It took me a few hours, moving like molasses, but it is done! :) * One end has been terminated at the Server area patch panel port 32. * The other end of the cable was terminated to a female RJ45 connector (without a box, because I didn't find one). I WILL BE MOVING HP SWITCH UP THE WALL: I noticed that a HP Procurve 24 port switch was left on top of one of the desktop computers; but I will move it up to the column above this table, so members and visitors don't mess with it. -Remember, this switch is feeding a connection the door lock system and, I believe, also the bookstore register area. And we really don't want those two connections to lose connections, just because someone unplugged the wrong cable or unplugged the wrong electrical cord or etc, etc. I will be updating the chart by the patch panel at the Server area to reflect this new connection. EAGLE alternatives or help

by Cere Mona Davis

Hi. I'm trying to write up an EAGLE board layout and failing miserably. I'm using the freeware EAGLE suite for the mac. Dunno if that's making my life harder than usual or not, but does anyone have recommendations for good EAGLE tools and/or willing to help me figure out how to work this thing? -Cere -- Best Regards, Cere Davis ceremona(a)gmail.com http://AcoustoCurio.us ------------------- GPG Key: http://taffy.findpage.com/~cere/pubkey.asc GPG fingerprint (ID# 73FCA9E6) : F5C7 627B ECBE C735 117B 2278 9A95 4C88 73FC A9E6

Where are the cordless Drills?

by danarauz＠gmail.com

I am trying to run the network cable from th second floor to the server area, but I got stuck. I need a drill to make a hole (on one of the walls at the kitchen that connect to CCL), but I cannot find a cordless drill. Well, I also need the drill bit for that too.
