[Noisebridge-announce] Fix-It Hardware Repair Club this Thursday!!! (fwd)

by Jake

zach is awesome! I might go to this. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 14 Jun 2016 18:26:02 +0000 From: Zach R <organicunity(a)hotmail.com> To: Noisebridge Announce <noisebridge-announce(a)lists.noisebridge.net>, NB Discuss <noisebridge-discuss(a)lists.noisebridge.net> Subject: [Noisebridge-announce] Fix-It Hardware Repair Club this Thursday!!! Yep it's back! Join the Rich, Zach, Mike, and the rest of the gang as they journey into the heart of the circuit board in a quest to uncover the hidden shorts of the evil Electro! :P This Thursday @ 2169 Mission Street around 6pm until 10pm (or later). Most likely to take place at the square shaped Noisebridge Logo table by the front entrance. It's a fun little community class where you get someone with 10+ years of experience to look at your broken junk and try to bring it back to life! See the updated page for all the info: Noisebridge.net/fix Flyer: http://s18.photobucket.com/user/Segasonicfan/media/NB%20Hardware%20Class/20… == What do I need to know? == The class is more focused on an Intermediate level for those that already know how to solder. Everyone should be welcome though, and we recommend the class on how to solder<https://noisebridge.net/wiki/Circuit_Hacking_Mondays> which happens Mondays at Noisebridge. It helps a lot to have a working knowledge of the simple components like resistors, capacitors, etc. We will come together to share our knowledge on repairs. Some people have been doing electronic repairs for 10++ years! Note: this is a community class and not a "free repair shop." Also know that anything you bring it has the potential to be hacked, destroyed, or manipulated in some way, so it is important that you do not bring things for which holds for you monetary, sentimental, or any other kind of value. Repairs will be chosen based on interest and whim of the class, and your project is not guaranteed to be fixed of course. It's always fun though and everyone usually at least gets to diagnose what's going on. We've repaired many things already! Things to bring: Your Curiosity Something To Take Notes With Camera or Video device for recording repair procedures / steps Food or snacks since the class can go late sometimes

Sleepers

by Marc Juul

At last Wednesday's meeting sudo room consensed to re-instate Chris B's membership. He had previously been banned for repeated sleeping and domestic use of the space. On the night of the next day as I was doing the rounds to close down the space I found Chris sleeping in a chair up by the public terminals. Chris had promised us there wouldn't be a repeat of this behavior. If anyone sees a reason to not immediately re-instate the ban then speak up now or forever hold your peace. We can formalize it at the next meeting with enough members for consensus. Last night I found Prince sleeping in the public terminal area. This is at least the third time I've personally found him sleeping. I'm going to bring him up for ban if it happens again. If anyone feels like talking to him to prevent this then you should do so now. -- marc/juul

help with DIY PCB etching?

by Patrik D'haeseleer

Hi folks, We could use some help with etching a printed circuit board at CCL next Saturday. Anyone have experience doing this? Any special equipment available in Sudo? The goal is not actually to make a PCB, but rather to use the copper traces of a PCB as a mold to cast silicone rubber on top, to make a microfluidic circuit. Thanks! Patrik

STEAM Vault event in Downtown Hayward, this Thurs June 16th

by Carl Gorringe

Hi there Sudo Room, The Hayward Techies are hosting this really awesome event called the STEAM Vault in Downtown Hayward this Thursday June 16th, 5:30 - 8:30 pm. It's in this grand old bank building. STEAM = Science, Tech, Engineering, Art & Multimedia. We're using the space to show off makerspace projects such as LED displays, VR, robots from established tinkerers and artists while also inviting local education groups (Alameda County Office of Ed, Ohlone College of Graphic Design, CSU East Bay) to intermingle. It's meant to raise awareness for a potential build out of a community hackerspace in Hayward, and it also is an open atmosphere for discussing art and the teaching of STEM. Outside of the bank, there's going to be a lot going on at the street fair: lots of food, drinking, and live music. You are invited to attend. (It's free!) And if you have any projects that you'd like to show, or would like to represent Sudo Room, we may still have some table space available. Let us know right away by emailing us at haywardtechies(a)gmail.com !
