need another 8-foot light bulb in sudoroom

by Jake

are there any more working 8-foot-long fluorescent lightbulbs in omni? one of the ones in the northeast corner of sudoroom has stopped working (the west one) and the whole fixture is dark now. of course we should migrate to another type of light in the future, but i think we should use up all the fluorescent lights before we do that.

Pursuance is building a global federation of activist groups

by Steve Phillips

Hey, all! As many of you know, at my Saturday hackathons at Noisebridge I've been working with @clairep and others on Pursuance -- *open source, self-hostable, end-to-end encrypted task management software* to amplify the efforts of activists, journalists, and nonprofits. Pursuance was started by formerly-imprisoned journalist and activist Barrett Brown, who went to jail for his crowdsourced journalism investigations into Palantir and others (see https://www.thenation.com/arti cle/strange-case-barrett-brown/ ) based on his going through of hacked emails that had been dumped onto the internet, and we're building Pursuance so people can more effectively and securely coordinate these kinds of actions online as part of *a global federation of activist groups opposing injustice*. And as my 5MoF talk a couple weeks ago mentioned, we just started a Kickstarter to fund the completion of the first major version that we're building (I'm the architect and lead dev)! *We just reached our initial goal of $48k(!)*, and there's some awesome stretch goals I'd love to get to as well. Anything you can do to spread the word would be appreciated. Thank you much! Fwd: Kaltek It Was The Best Of Times, It Was The Worst Of Times....

by Hilary Naylor

Hi all, I'm sure some of you know Kal and/or have seen his awesome creations. If you can spare a little to help him out, please do so. thanks Hilary *---fwd---* *Sent:* Wednesday, July 11, 2018 10:57 *To:* seemen(a)ape.monkeybrains.net *Subject:* Kaltek It Was The Best Of Times, It Was The Worst Of Times....... Happy Summer! Mine's a bit of struggle. I am getting evicted from my studio, my home base and ground zero for 25 years. So whaddya do? Throw a fundraiser! https://www.gofundme.com/save-kals-robots I ran my studio as an experimental art/live space that housed and supported over 100 other artists and activists. All with NO grants, no outside support, no gallery sales and no renting to tech businesses. In 1995 when I moved in the street was a dirt road and littered with abandoned cars and homeless everywhere, prostitution rings and folks lurking to rob you. It was the project that should have never worked: an artist supporting artists by sharing below market rent. Yet the 25 year run of people, events, exhibits are a testament to art over commerce. Now, like virtually all other artists in San Francisco, I'm getting evicted. I will keep making art. I will keep supporting others who make art and are active for change. Sincere thanks from the bottom of my heart for any support you can offer. It has been a gift to share my space with so many amazing people. I’m looking ahead to how I can keep doing this for the next 25 years. ThankYou,ThankYou,TankYou! Kal --- Hilary Naylor, Ph.D. www.a2zed.us Oakland CA

need 12 identicalish 5v variable power supplies

by Jake

has anyone seen a stack of 12 or more identical 5v power supplies? like variable-output metal-chassis style, in the range of 50 to 250 watts? i thought there were a bunch of them at noisebridge but it's kindof far for me to go look. I need them for testing these 12-series LiFePo battery banks. i should mention that i will be using them at 3.6v not 5v, but i think 5v supplies are appropriate and i will be able to fudge them down to 3.6 or so. thank you -jake

Omni Delegates Proposal: Endorsement letter request for long-standing West Oakland establishment

by Sierk

---------- Forwarded message ---------- Subject: [omni-discuss] Fwd: Endorsement letter request for long-standing West Oakland establishment Date: Thu, 5 Jul 2018 01:55:59 +0200 From: Julian Park <julianfrancispark(a)gmail.com> <julianfrancispark(a)gmail.com> To: consensus(a)lists.omnicommons.org, discuss(a)lists.omnicommons.org Please add to agenda for tomorrow. On July 4, 2018 at 4:29:07 PM, OneFam and Rev Cafe (onefam(a)protonmail.com) wrote: Hello, We are writing in collaboration with our neighbor, Tony Coleman, and all of OneFam in our fight against eviction. *Attached to this email is an endorsement we hope the Omni will sign in support of OneFam and in opposition to our eviction. *We are fighting for our right to stay in this space, however it is important to recognize that the OneFam fight is about a larger battle against displacement endemic in our community. West Oakland is more than a collection of buildings. We are fighting to save history. The famous traffic light is commemorated at 55th and Market in North Oakland, but where is today’s equivalent of 1967’s 55th and Market? Head straight south on Market and you wind up in the Lower Bottom, OneFam’s neighborhood. A place that is not only steeped in Black Panther Party history, and Black history going back a century, but remains a predominantly Black neighborhood that currently experiences a great need for many of the things that BPP fought for in the ‘60s. OneFam started years ago with Bikes 4 Life. It has since grown to include other spaces on the property: the 7th Street Revolution Cafe, a performance and meeting space, and an outdoor events space where the historic Lincoln Theater once stood. These locations host a wide range of community gatherings, including music events such as weekly open mics and blues nights. OneFam also has roots in the Oscar Grant movement and many meetings happened in OneFam spaces. The displacement of Black and Brown residents and businesses by more affluent white residents is now the norm everywhere, including the once vibrant 7th Street. OneFam is the last pre-gentrification business, affectionately deemed “the last one standing” by some long-term West Oaklanders. For over six months, OneFam has responded to hostility from the landlord, who returned as the sole owner of the property after not being around for years. Absence left OneFam and the other tenants to deal with repairs, increasing cost of utilities and other results of neglect by themselves. Now OneFam is being wrongfully evicted. OneFam is an amazing organization that has been a part of this community but also has plans for the future. The goals of OneFam are as follows: - Inspire community members to take part in politics by building a social justice movement with a diverse mix of artists and activists - Raise the consciousness of young people and turn them into local leaders by creating a space for education and awareness about the issues of their community. We know that working together, we can push back against displacement and ensure that OneFam is not just the “last one standing” but instead a victory on 7th Street. Hopefully the first of many. Very truly yours. *P.S. If you or anyone you know would like to make a charitable donation to OneFam, you may do so online through **www.tinyurl/save1fam* <http://www.tinyurl/save1fam>*. Donations of $250 or greater are tax-deductible* --
