Photos and description of my low-cost tiny house project

by Autonomous

This is a tiny house project that I designed and completed in Nov 2019 to provide housing for a homeless couple in Marin. This stationary tiny house measures 12 x 10 feet and is 15 feet tall. It features a large loft, a deck built from reclaimed redwood and foam panel insulation. Total cost to build was $3500 for materials with labor donated by my non-profit. The design follows guidelines for tiny house construction from AB 2176 - housing crisis emergency shelter, where the primary use is for personal space with facilities for cooking and personal hygiene located elsewhere on site. To deal with regulations concerning zoning, building and safety, and local objections relating to affordable housing, this tiny house is located on a "sanctuary site" which is a parcel of land that has been dedicated in perpetuity for conservation and sanctuary purposes. Federal RLUIPA laws apply that supersede local regulations and objections from neighbors. As far as I know, RLUIPA is the strongest defense against inhumane housing regulations that are the primary cause of the housing crisis. RLUIPA has been applied successfully to construct tiny house villages over the objections of neighbors and local planning authorities. My non-profit is planning to construct more tiny houses at our sanctuary site in Marin as well as other sites in California. The design will be updated to facilitate mass production of tiny houses through the use of components fabricated with a CNC router. I am currently working on the next version of the design that includes components from the wikihouse project that will enable rapid assembly while minimizing cost and waste material. https://photos.app.goo.gl/3RrY5z8Xcd6iBhEd7 > > [image: 20191125_140649.jpg] > >

Housing Justice Village

by Jenny Ryan

Unhoused folks who have been traumatized and brutalized by the city of Oakland, whose encampments have been destroyed, have moved onto Oscar Grant Plaza asking "Where do we go?" Where are the millions that were set aside to upgrade, not evict encampments and to build permanent housing for the homeless? OGP 14th/Bdwy right NOW

Photos of low cost tiny house on foundation - completed Autumn 2019 to house homeless couple in Marin

by Autonomous

Cost to build this tiny house was $3500 for materials, labor was donated by my non-profit. This tiny house follows the guidelines of AB 2176 for "housing crisis emergency shelter". Having 120 square feet and being no taller than 15 ft above ground level, no permits are required. As part of a workaround for dealing with occupancy issues, zoning laws and unpleasant nimby neighbors in Marin County, it is located on a "sanctuary site" - where federal religious land use laws apply under RLUIPA. This tiny house provides shelter for a young couple who grew up in Marin, obtained college degrees and are both employed in Marin. After a series of rent increases on a small room they were renting which was substandard, they could not find any other affordable options in Marin and started living out of a car. The plans are open source - I am working on completing a sketchup model before the plans go up on github. Since my non-profit wishes to construct more of these shelters in Marin and other locations in California, I am working on the next version of the design which incorporates elements from wikihouse and will utilize a cnc router for construction. Free Tube Amplifiers

by Kyle Mitchell

I've finally come around to realizing that I'm just not going to finish a couple electronics projects I set aside a few years back. If anyone is interested in post-war tube audio, I have, free to a good home: - Dynaco PAS-2 preamplifier - Dynaco Stereo 70 power amplifier All the bits are there, including tube complements, and I've had both working quite well in the past. The selenium rectifiers have been replaced, but I started, but did not finish, replacing the power supplies and can capacitors with modern components. They'll need that work finished before they can play music. I should mention that the power amplifier is heavy. If you're interested, you'll probably want to put them in a vehicle: car, truck, bicycle trailer, &c. I should also mention that while these could be great first projects in tube audio, anyone working on these kinds of circuits should be mindful of electrical safety. Voltages are high, and power supply capacitors can store dangerous amounts of energy. I have a homemade capacitor discharge tool if you want it. Relatedly, I also have a TubeDebot 6L6 kit amplifier in good working order, also free to a good home. I'm not sure if the model is exactly the same, but here's the manufacturer's current page: https://tubedepot.com/products/model-16ls-stereo-integrated-tube-amplifier It's a neat little amp, quite powerful, takes line-level input, and has a built-in volume knob, so you can use it for phones or computers or MP3 players without preamplification. I was gifted a smaller TubeDepot ready-made amp some time after buying the kit, which is why the kit amp sits quiet. Special thanks to Jake for encouraging me to mention on this list. I'm not currently subscribed to sudo-discuss, so please make sure to copy me.

3D printer repair

by Koz

Hi all, Just came by Sudo Room tonight, and I met a guy named Zirk there (pretty sure I'm not spelling his name right, but that's how it sounded). He knew his way around, and told to email you all. I'm just looking for someone who knows how to repair 3D printers, specifically the SLA kind. Can anyone help, or can point me to someone who can? Best, Koz
