Come be my guinea pigs! THIS Sunday Nov 1 at sudoroom, 3 pm: Exquisite Corpse for Electronics workshop

by Alessandra Nölting

Hi all! Help me test-drive my first Hackaday Supercon workshop! 🗓️ Sunday, Nov 1, 3-5 pm 📍 Sudo Room @ Omni Commons, Oakland✋ RSVP: reply here so that I know roughly how many people are coming! I'm running my first-ever workshop at Hackaday Supercon this year. It's the "exquisite corpse" drawing game, but for electronics, and I'd love to do a trial run with friendly local faces first. Come be my workshop guinea pigs! Here's how it will work: Everyone gets a small synth module and modifies it in secret. Then we chain all the blocks together, power them up, and find out whether our collective creation plays a tune you'll recognize. Think Lego Great Ball Contraption, but for sound, with lots more ways to go gloriously wrong. No experience needed. I'll ask for your feedback at the end, so you'll get to help shape the real thing. I will bring snacks & drinks. Come help me make it awesome? 🎶🔌 It would mean a lot to have you there! Is there an official sudoroom calendar that I can post this to? Can anyone point me in the right direction? - Alessandra Official listing: https://hackaday.com/2026/10/14/2026-hackaday-supercon-workshops-are-open/ Exquisite Corpse for Electronics workshop - This Sunday Nov 1 at sudoroom, 3 pm

[sudo-info] Sudo Room: approved channel for adult Android feedback volunteers? (fwd)

Hello Sudo Room team, Your volunteer-run hackerspace combines software/electronics projects with appropriate technology and social good. Could you advise whether a voluntary Android usability-feedback invitation would fit a channel your organizers approve? We develop FlockAware, a surveillance-camera awareness/navigation app, and seek adult volunteers with existing US Google Play accounts for a forthcoming 14-day closed test. We need six more committed volunteers. Signup is open now; installation availability and next steps will be emailed later. https://groups.google.com/g/flockaware-android-testers We would value honest usability and bug feedback when access opens. No purchase or public review is requested. Installation invitations await final readiness review. BAY AREA | Manic Pixie Dream Market

by Romy Ilano

https://www.manicpixiedreammarket.com/bayarea They have these very cute. cute markets every month next to the Oakland School of the arts in their new Oakland art park at 19 Street. I think the stands are about $95 or $75 for a small one, but it might be a cute place to have Sudoroom merchandise and sign up for members Sent from my iPhone

shared video audio editing resources

by Baasma Prodisoru-Atallah-Beyler

Hi All, I'm looking for shared resources for a friend that does video work but is low in computer funds at the moment. They would likely give back when their situation changes. I'm wondering if there are any workstations available to use for video and audio editing. Ideally with tools like proLogic final Cut. Ideally with 24+GB RAM. warmly Baãsma On Fri, 02 Oct 2026, 09:45 , <sudo-discuss-request(a)sudoroom.org> wrote: > Send sudo-discuss mailing list submissions to > sudo-discuss(a)sudoroom.org > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via email, send a message with subject or > body 'help' to > sudo-discuss-request(a)sudoroom.org > > You can reach the person managing the list at > sudo-discuss-owner(a)sudoroom.org > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of sudo-discuss digest..."Today's Topics: > > 1. Learn about using and contributing to OpenStreetMap, opensourced and open data alternative to Google/Apple Maps. We will demostrate apps such as OSMAnd which enables offline navigation using data from OpenStreetMaps. OSM is crowdsourced project, so we will also make edits and improve the data! https://gath.io/JsegMyqcF8f7X3qi5EJzP

PACIFICON℠ Amateur Electronics Swap Meet – 18 Oct 2026

by irish.masms

I shared this in Discord, but I know some folks are not on there (and I do not blame you FWIIW). I have seen some of the other hacker/maker spaces have had booths at Electronics Flea Market and Pacificon, either as an informational booth or as a fundraiser. Sharing what I know & my experiences attending over the years below. When: Sunday, Oct. 18 2026 6:00 AM to 12:00 Noon (rain or shine) Where: back parking lot of San Ramon Marriott Hotel (behind the hotel, in between the interstate and hotel building) URL: https://www.pacificon.org/events/swap-meet What: Pacificon is the regional ham radio convention for northern California and all of Nevada. This is their swap meet/flea market, similar to the silicon valley’s Electronics Flea Market (EFM aka eFlea). Tips/notes: As this is an event of the regional ham radio convention, it is heavy on radio/ham items for sale. But there are surprises every year I have gone, with one seller: - having a ton of satellite equipment and boards, many were development and engineering samples - “cleaning out their garage” having a dozen brand new RasPi’s for $5 each (back when they were hard to find and crazy priced) - A clean Thinkpad T60 with spare batteries, a docking station, and two power supplies that has been working great - Soldering stations, various hand and electronic tools, test equipment, etc. There are a small handful of sellers that you would recognize from EFM, but most are individuals from out of the bay area or even out of state. Last year the road in front of the hotel was closed between 0700-0900 for a runners road race; come early in case this is happening again. Also note the gates into the parking lot dont stay open until 0800 or 0900 in the morning Typically, a couple of us from BARC/BARG will sell at this event; come find us! As this is a “convention” they do have vendors inside the hotel, where the majority of them you can see for free (do not need the conference badge). The conference badge is only needed for one room with the high end radio gear (but is easy to sneak into if you know what you are doing). Vendors worth checking out inside are (note TBD if they will be there this year): Lidoradio.com – Solutions for mounting tablets & phones in vehicles, many without needed to drill “holes” in your vehicle. I have a couple of their products, work great IMHO. Based on past years, they do tend to be within the room with the high end radio gear. Wired Communications (www.wiredco.com) – All the little parts, cables, and doodads you could want. Much is the similar stuff you can get from Alibaba and/or AliExpress, but with a little markup for this husband & wife company (without the horrid shipping experiences from Alibaba and/or AliExpress senders). They are normally in the hallway just outside the room with the high end radio gear. They normally have come to EFM once over the summer, but were not there this year.
