hi all,
the fire extinguisher in the commons room (which was located on the wall by
the light switches) is missing and it needs to come back!
if you have any leads, let me know off-list.

Hey everyone,
So I've been doing sound art meet ups at sudo room since about March now
and I'm considering expanding the format a bit. How many of you would show
up to an art and technology meet up?
I'm at trying to arrange a sudoers yoga lesson tomorrow Friday at noon.
Hopefully an Earth Tribe Yoga teacher will respond in time. It will be for
ultra beginners.
But even if no one responds from there I will hack the yoga and DIY
instruct together. No one can stop us now.
Max
fyi!

a really neat thing about linux these days - i don't know if this will
work on the pi but when i want to script something involving a USB webcam
or a USB serial port, instead of referring to it by /dev/ttyACM0 or
whatever, i look for
/dev/serial/by-id/usb-Keyspan__a_division_of_InnoSys_Inc._Keyspan_USA-19H-if00-port0
you can put that into your thing instead of /dev/ttyUSB0 or whatever, and
it will always work - no matter what order the serial ports come up in.
i mean not that you took my advice last time...

Apparently I am our landlord's new preferred liaison. He called my
phone at 10:45 tonight and complained at length about the common area.
Specifically, he said the pews need to go by the end of the month. He
says he never gave permission for them, and he's hated them from the
beginning. He also suggested they be donated to the Joshua Christian
Church in West Oakland which was apparently smashed up by a car last
week. He said if they're not gone by the end of the month he will
remove them himself, possibly by bludgeoning them into pieces and
carrying the pieces to a dumpster.
I did not say yes or no. It was very hard to get a word in edgewise,
but I repeated several times, "I cannot speak for sudoroom. I will
relay your message to the group. Thank you for letting us know."
For context, the common area is actually cleaner today than it's been
in almost two weeks. To be perfectly honest, the timing tells me that
he's been stewing in frustration for quite a while. I think seeing a
moderate improvement gave him some clarity in terms of what he wants.
Frankly we've abused his flexibility about the common area. The pews
do encourage people to act irresponsibly, to forget we are guests out
there, to neglect to clean up after events, to turn it into a garbage
dump. By evicting the pews he's saying the party's over, stay in the
area you're paying for, unless you want to pay for the rest of it. He
did offer to quote us on the full square footage of the common area,
if we want...
It didn't have to be this way. If it was just the pews, I think he'd
deal. But he sees them as a slippery slope, a gateway to an overall
sense of entitlement beyond what he owes us, and I can't say I'm
surprised.

hi everyone,
we are at the meeting and have been discussing the status of our various
door access mechanisms. as we were discussing them, we realized that we
were partly in a fog of unknowing. so this email is a request for
information on the status of our different mechanisms:
- door.sudoroom.org: FUNCTIONAL
- rfid: unfunctional this morning - unclear function now
- keypad: unfunctional this morning, functional this evening: WHY? =O
- buzzer: unfunctional this morning, functional after jordan logged in
and restarted the mouseread daemon.
for folks who are working on these systems, it would be great if you could
let the list know what the known issues are with these systems, where we're
at, and what work needs to be done. please consider this an open thread for
updates on the status of our access systems.
thanks!
marina

- desire for folks to help with sudo kids
- we are looking for people to help do activities (we have only been
doing clay and radio so far) on tuesday nights. do you have an idea for
something you'd like to do with kids? if so, contact ray or marina.
- join sudo kids list:
- desire for folks to help with radio
- we are starting to get shows booked! are you interested in helping
train people, book shows, generally expand the radio program? if
so, please
contact marina!
- space.sudo/music is down!
- this also affects sudo radio as mixxx, our dj software, typically
connects to the music server and seems to not want to do
anything when the
server is down.
- access & membership
- proposal to use the following membership/access procedure:
- tell people to sign up to become members on our site:
https://sudoroom.org/membership/
- when people sign up, they should come to the space where a member will:
- check the results of the membership sign-up form to ensure that the
person is on there:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlKk2X9KKqlFdFZJUy12ZUhDUmx2N3…
- the membership sign-up form results are on the last tab of our fiscal
solvency sheet!
- give them a code for door.sudoroom.org
- let them know that if there are any problems, that the code can be
revoked
- let them know about dues, the sliding scale, and different ways to
contribute (sudoroom.org, gittip, via check or cash in the dropbox (show
location of the dropbox) or during wednesday meetings).
- give them instructions on how to open and close the space.
- invite them to listservs and wednesday night meetings
- give them logins for wordpress site & wiki (not everyone knows how to
do this)
- Need to do:
- Give existing sudoers ability to add pw's for new people. Jordan is
working on adding commenting to the txt file that houses our list of pw's.
Once this is done,
- We currently have no way to track or report who pays, etc. Is this ok?
If not, we need solutions.
- If you want to work on membership management solutions, check out this
repo: https://github.com/substack/sudo-members
- A number of folks have signed up to be members but it's unclear
whether they have had any follow-up or come by the space. we've updated the
info on the page that confirms that someone completed the form completely
to let people know that they should come to the space, but should we
contact the folks who have already signed up?
