Re: [sudo-discuss] what's the current state of the sewing machines?

by Mary Paniscus

I've got a sewing machine I can bring if someone confirms its need ASAP. I also have some collaborative pieces that could use some more paint for the Jan 3rd event. I have all the supplies needed and will hover around the table facilitating others (as minimally as needed) so that they paint with (rather than over) previous contributions. It's fun and easy.

what's the current state of the sewing machines?

by Romy Ilano

How are the current sewing machines set up at SudoRoom? I'd like to set up a sewing station for people during the artmaking party on January 3. https://sudoroom.org/ai1ec_event/art-year-of-the-snake-rebirth/ ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

resources for starting a hackerspace in Mississippi?

by Romy Ilano

Hi, my friend Elle Seven is visiting from Mississippi. She coordinates diversity teaching workshops, art shows, skates and has travelled to Senegal. She's well versed in education and is interested in starting a hackerspace in Missisissppi Are there resources on the Noisebridge wiki for this? She is not so versed in technology but is a skater, artist and a maker. Are there resources on the wiki that show how tech can be used in a fun educational setting? ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

January 3 - post art murmur art making party - anyone interested?

by Romy Ilano

https://sudoroom.org/wiki/ArtMakingParty#Schedule Hi I'm busy planning the January 3- art collaboration event. Is anyone interested in participating? Anyone who could also go on the street, wave signs and play music to beckon and lure people in right before the art murmur would also be great! During Art Murmur[edit<https://sudoroom.org/mediawiki/index.php?title=ArtMakingParty&action=edit&s…> ] During the Art Murmur any people could be stationed on the street waving, playing music, performing or dancing and beckoning people coming to SudoRoom. 9:45 start[edit<https://sudoroom.org/mediawiki/index.php?title=ArtMakingParty&action=edit&s…> ] - Opening ceremonies presented by James Lamaste - People are directed to where they can draw or hack, different stations. There will be standing areas for the MC to go to at various points of the night to showcase their progress. - Elle Seven will skate around, present her wonderful skate films set in Dakar and East Los Angeles. http://facebook.com/elleseven - *Art Drawing from the Hat* (15 minutes) our handsome MC James Lamaste will draw various drawing ideas from the HAT! collaborators do a quickdraw on whatever medium they have at hand (paint, marker, iPad, wacom tablet, even tattooing their love of their life) - Guitar playing by Garrett - People will draw along to Garrett's music. About[edit<https://sudoroom.org/mediawiki/index.php?title=ArtMakingParty&action=edit&s…> ] January 3, 2014 - we are having a post Oakland Art Murmur<https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Art_Murmur> art making evening. The idea is that instead of doing an art show, we will create a space for people to create art, hack on stuff, dance and perform for everyone live. It's like a Jazz musician jam. There are going to be art MC's such as James Lamaste and roller skaters like Elle Seven cheering people on, presenting videos, and playing music. ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

has anyone worked with open data from socrata?

by Romy Ilano

I'd like to use government data to make an iPhone mobile app [[native]] for my programming portfolio. Has anyone worked with the socrata open data? they manage the sf open data website... there's interesting stuff there, like all the films that were filmed in SF, and their locations and actors, etc. It would be a fun geolocation app. would anyone be interested in collaborating? ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

Fwd: Happy New Year and Thank You

by Romy Snowyla

Sent from my iPhone Begin forwarded message: > From: Mind Body Awareness Project <info(a)mbaproject.org> > Date: December 29, 2013 at 9:59:30 AM PST > To: Romy <romy(a)snowyla.com> > Subject: Happy New Year and Thank You > Reply-To: Mind Body Awareness Project <info(a)mbaproject.org> > > > > DONATE TO MBA > Is this email not displaying correctly? > View it in your browser. > > Dear Romy, > > We want to wish you happy holidays from all the MBA staff and facilitators! We hope you are enjoying time with your family, resting and relaxing. 2013 will end in just a few days. Remember, there’s still time to donate and help Bay Area youth who are in need. > > If you have already donated, we want to extend our deepest gratitude. Thank you for believing in us! Please continue to stand with our amazing youth and if you haven’t already donated, donate today. As you know, our goal is to raise $15,000 by January 1, 2014. To help us get there, an anonymous donor has stepped up and offered us a $7,500 challenge grant! To date, we’ve raised $6,000. We just have $1500 to go over the next few days! Below is a review of some of what we’ve accomplished in 2013. Help us continue to deliver these transformative services into 2014. > > In 2013 MBA: > Expanded our services to 4 Oakland Unified Schools + 1 school in Newark, CA (all schools that serve probation youth) > Completed our first ever overnight (3-day, 2-night), residential meditation retreat with youth from the Richmond, CA area > Launched our first clinical practicum for doctoral students to learn mindfulness-based psychotherapy with this population > Served 450 unique youth through our mindfulness-based groups and one-on-one counseling and mentor sessions > Your support has helped MBA continue to offer vital services to low-income youth seriously impacted by violence, oppression, poverty, and trauma. Please continue to advocate for our youth – share about what you know with your friends and family, stay knowledgeable and make a contribution. Remember: > > $100 supports one youth receiving 3 one-on-one counseling sessions > $250 supports one youth attending a 3-day, 2-night residential meditation retreat > $500 supports one youth to participate in our 10-module programs in the a juvenile hall > $1,000 supports one youth to go through a yearlong MBA high school class > $5,000 supports a yearlong training for one MBA instructor > If you can’t afford any of the above, remember, anything helps - even a few dollars a month. We could not do the life transforming work we do at MBA without strong hearts like yours. On behalf of all of the youth we serve, thank you for your ongoing support!! Donate today! > > Kindness, > > Sam Himelstein > Executive Director > > You can make an online donation or send a check made payable to the Mind Body Awareness Project, 478 Santa Clara Avenue, Suite 200, Oakland, CA 94610. > The Mind Body Awareness Project is a registered 501(c) 3 charitable organization and donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. > follow on Twitter | friend on Facebook | forward to a friend > > Copyright © 2013 Mind Body Awareness Project, All rights reserved. > You are receiving this email because you signed up for our mailing list and/or sent us a donation. > Our mailing address is: > Mind Body Awareness Project > 478 Santa Clara Avenue > Suite 200 > Oakland, CA 94610 > > Add us to your address book > > > > > > unsubscribe from this list | update subscription preferences | view email in browser >
