help with dragon naturally speaking

by Hanna

Hi Sudo folks I'm having trouble with dragon crashing/working super slow a lot. I definitely need to get it going smooth in the next couple weeks because I'll need it for an online class. Does anyone have knowledge with this program? I think I may have the wrong headset or version for my operating system, or there may be something else going on. Thanks in advance for your time!! The Gig: Chattanooga's municipally-run Internet

by Vicky Knox

http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2014/5/29/chattanooga-net-neutrality.… "The Gig, which serves over 60,000 customers, was built because EPB [(the local power company)] decided to upgrade its power grid. The company’s main mission was to wire their customers’ homes with fiber optic cables that could communicate meter readings and manage power at a lower cost than the outdated systems used elsewhere. The fiber optic network also allowed EPB to reroute power during storms, helping the company prevent or quickly fix outages without the help of large crews. "The fast Internet, along with TV and phone service, essentially piggybacked on EPB’s new electrical grid."

Fwd: [June 21st] Mapping Educational Ecosystems on Oakland/Local Wiki

by Vicky Knox

You pedagogical and open knowledge radicals might be interested in meeting these folks and participating. :] ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Vicky Knox <vknoxsironi(a)gmail.com> Date: 2014-06-05 20:31 GMT-07:00 Subject: [June 21st] Mapping Educational Ecosystems on Oakland/Local Wiki To: "oaklandwiki(a)googlegroups.com" <oaklandwiki(a)googlegroups.com>, " oaklandwiki-announcements(a)googlegroups.com" < oaklandwiki-announcements(a)googlegroups.com> Hey everyone! A couple of weeks ago I met with a really neat educator named Darshan Campos. She and some of her collaborators are putting on a mapping party of the educational ecosystem of the East Bay, and will be using Oakland Wiki and Local Wiki for this purpose! Below is her invite. I will be there over the Internets. ;] WHEN: *June 21st, 10a-5:30p* WHERE: *South Berkeley Public Library // The Internet* RSVP: *link below* ~~~ I'd love for you to join us for MEEP: Mapping Educational Ecosystems Project <http://www.meepwiki.org/>'s first community learning lab. MEEP aims to help solve one of today’s biggest challenges - how to build learning institutions that work for people at all stages of life, from birth until natural death. Our core values <http://www.meepwiki.org/#%21values/c12fe> are rooted in community informatics and the knowledge sharing revolution, which is at the heart of Oakland Wiki. At our lab <http://www.meepwiki.org/#%21lab/c8f4>, we'll map our community's educational ecosystem, its many centers for learning and teaching. We'll also practice cooperative learning techniques such as spatial mapping, visual thinking, and affinity mapping. Our community learning lab is on 21 June 2014 from *10:00 - 5:30 pm* at the *South Berkeley Public Library*. As a participant, you'll enrich our community's lens for education and spread the word and worldview of community informatics. You'd also find allies and form natural partnerships with individuals and organizations that promote community learning. Plus, you'll eat tasty treats! If you can join us, please RSVP <http://www.eventbrite.com/e/community-learning-lab-for-meep-mapping-educati…>. If have any questions or feedback, please email me. Meeting 6/4: Important discussion about Omni lease + favorite phase changes!

by Jenny Ryan

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hey sudo! Tonight we went over the Omni lease that was sent out late last night. At tonight's meeting, a consensus proposal was passed to empower me to represent the spirit of sudo in signing this lease on sudo's behalf before our next meeting (probably Friday or Monday), or in selecting someone else to do it if necessary (I'm out of town starting Saturday). The final version of the lease we have now is the result of no less than a month's worth of daily negotiating between the owner and David Keenan - meetings typically ranging from 3-5 hours a day. David's been working his ass off on our behalf under the guidance of the Omni Collective's lawyer, Jesse Palmer, who has extensive experience with the kind of weird, co-opy property negotiations we're currently undergoing. We are in good hands, and very nearly (99%) there! I recommend that anyone interested in the details of our lease read it over tonight and attend tomorrow's Omni meeting (7pm at 2141 Broadway), during which Jesse, our lawyer, will again be present to answer any questions. Please see last night's email for the link, and email me privately if access is not rapidly granted. See the full meeting notes for details on the lease and questions answered by Jesse at tonight's meeting - or if you are merely interested in what everyone's favorite phase change is: https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Meeting_Notes_2014-06-04 Our move-in date upon signing is officially July 1st, though we can begin storing things there this month. \o/ hack the planet! Fwd: Someone is throwing out a Loom!

To: <omnilogistics(a)lists.riseup.net> Is this the kind of awesome junk we want at Omni, or what? Full disclosure several people at the FNB meeting think I'm insane but I say this is completely awesome. I pushed on the peddles, seems responsive. Definitely rusty and dirty, you know uncertain functionality etc but I think a keeper!... i'm trying to arrange a ride for it-maybe you?- or stop me if you think this is completely insane. Its on Shattuck off Woolsey. See picture...

A friendly reminder re: use and abuse of the space

by Jenny Ryan

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hey sudo! It's come to my attention that some folks are concerned about the abuse of the common space in particular by certain non-members. This is a friendly reminder that any sudo room member is empowered to ask a non-member to leave at any point, with no reason given, and which the non-member must do unless another member present is willing to vouch for that person [1]. I recommend gathering 2-3 other folks to approach the problematic individual, with one person speaking. Such requests hold water for 12 hours, and repeated incidents are perfectly reasonable to bring to a sudo room meeting for conflict resolution: https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Articles_of_Association#Section_3.2_Conflict_Reso… Also, a reminder that tenants of 2141 Broadway who are not Sudo Room, BAPS, Hair Candy, Sound Room, or Robert have no _right_ to access of the common space - as is legally defined in their leases and unless permission has been granted by sudo room. This was consensed upon at last week's meeting. [1] As it's written in our Articles (https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Articles_of_Association): Section 5.1 Non-member access To empower members to deal with problematic non-members: Any member may deny non-members access to sudo room assets (and require the non-member in question to vacate the physical space) at any time, with no reason given, unless some other member currently present in the space is willing to vouch for the non-member in question as a guest. Before denying a non-member access (and requiring the non-member in question to vacate the physical space), the member must ask both the non-member and the members present in the space if any member is vouching for the non-member as a guest. For a non-member, being denied access (and required to vacate the physical space) is not a ban, and the non-member in question may return after 12 hours. Section 5.2 Domestic Use The bay area is in the throes of a housing crisis. Despite the abundance of resources (space, buildings, etc), the distribution of those resources is unfair. For many it can be costly and difficult to fulfill the basic human need of shelter. However, sudo room, as a creative community and hacker space, must maintain a division between habitation and usage of the space. As such the following are resolved: sudo room is not intended to be used for habitation or domestic purposes. No-one is allowed to sleep in sudo room at any time. Any member can require that anyone sleeping in sudo room must leave immediately. Repeated sleeping at sudo room is grounds for being temporarily or permanently denied access to sudo room's assets, including its physical space. Also, a reminder that a core sudoroom value is: 7. Value safe space over ideology. Let's keep our space a safe space for people to be, work, make, hack, and meet! Fwd: meeting space?

by Lee Worden

Hello Sudo Room - Are you and the BAPS friendly to sharing the large room for other, reasonably compatible meetings? My workplace has recently unionized and we're holding some worker assemblies without the union organizers present, to strategize. We're looking for a neutral space to meet, probably 2-4 pm June 16. Apologies if this isn't the right channel to ask. Thanks! LW
