Ok I hate to be racial but there's a cool half Filipino half black chick who's smart who I hang out with at Sudoroom. Does anyone have her contact ? I'm bad with names! We were planning on hanging out!!!

Arduino For Total Newbies
workshop at Noisebridge
Learn all you need to know to make cool projects with Arduino!
You've probably heard lots about Arduino. But if you don't know what it is, or how you can use it to do all sorts of cool things, then this fun and easy workshop is for you. As an example project, we'll be creating a TV-B-Gone remote control out of an Arduino you can take home with you.
Summary:
What: Arduino workshop for total newbies, using TV-B-Gone remote controls as an intro example project
When: 1:00pm to 4:30pm, Sunday, March 29th
Where: Noisebridge map (including where to push the buzzer)
Who: Anyone and everyone can have fun learning Arduino. Ages 10 to 100
Max #: 50 participants -- This workshop will fill up, so please arrive early!
-- Precedence given to those who register in advance at:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/arduino-for-total-newbies-workshop-tickets-160…
Cost: $35 -- includes everything you need!
And you get to bring your Arduino TV-B-Gone home with you.
Optional: $20 communications/programming cable
-- (some will be available to use for free during the workshop).
Instructor: Mitch
Register for the workshop:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/arduino-for-total-newbies-workshop-tickets-160…
Optional: Bring your laptop if you want to go home with the free Arduino software installed on it.
Arduino software runs on Windows, MacOS and Linux.
Description:
Arduino is an amazingly powerful tool that is very simple to learn to use. It was designed so that artists and non-geeks can start from nothing, and make something cool happen in less than 90 minutes. Yet, it is powerful enough so that uber-geeks can use it for their projects as well.
This workshop is easy enough for total newbies to learn all you need to know to get going on an Arduino.
Taught by Mitch Altman. Participants will make their own Arduino clone, and set it up on solderless breadboards to make their own TV-B-Gone remote control to turn off TVs in public places -- a fun way to learn Arduino (and electronics) basics. Bring your laptop, if you can.
Big thanks to Ken Shirriff, who came up with the original TV-B-Gone for Arduino.
Itinerary:
Intro to ArduinoVery short lesson to learn everything you need to know about electronics! Then we will learn to solder. Don't let this scare you! I've taught well over 50,000 people to solder, most of whom have never made anything before in their lives. It is actually a very easy skill to learn. It is also very useful. Then we will each make our own Arduino clone from a kit made by Evil Mad Scientist: DiavolinoNow that we each have our own Arduino, we will set up the free and open-source software on our laptops (if you bring one) -- Windows, MacOS, or Linux are all fine! And then its time to make something and learn how easy it is to use Arduino! I'll (very easily!) show you how to read schematic diagrams, and you'll put together your own TV-B-Gone remote control using your BoArduino. We will use a solderless breadboard. These are really useful, and provide a fast, and very easy way to put circuits together without needing to solder. Target practice is available after the workshop.
You are now ready to download and hack zillions of Arduino projects that are available for free online!
Best,
Mitch.
FYI, I moved a bunch of stuff that got pushed into CCL during the Sudo
cleanup last week back into Sudo. Including a bunch of wood, some slabs of
countertop marble/granite, and two black trunks that were blocking the fire
exit.
Is all the random junk piled up in front of the vending machines supposed
to get recycled / disposed off? I would greatly appreciate if someone could
take care of that.
Thanks!
Patrik

Best,

so i guess sudoroom (and CCL too probably) need some new lights, since the
flourescents are failing.
Home Despot sells 11-watt "warm white" bulbs for $9 each, which would be a
good idea if we had regular lamp sockets to screw bulbs into...
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Cree-60W-Equivalent-Daylight-5000K-A19-Dimmable-…
but china can always do better. I looked on Ali Express and sorted by
customer satisfaction, looking for LED lighting in "downlights" which
suggests lamps shining downward?
these look good but the seller rating is only 97.4%:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/High-Quality-Aluminum-9W-15W-21W-27W-45W-LED…
they seem to be "16 to 21" watts for $6.95 including shipping. They offer
"warm" and "cold" flavors so we could just get a mix of the two kinds, for
something in the middle when they're all on.
here is the search i was doing:
http://www.aliexpress.com/category/200002289/led-downlights.html?site=glo&i…
this one is also a good price, and the seller rating is higher (98.1%)
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/21W-Antifogging-Epistar-led-downlight-AC85-2…
ultimately i have higher confidence in the quality of something we buy
from Cree at Home Despot, but I think we should give China a chance and
buy a few of the "16 to 21 watt" ones and see how they compare.
For reference, Cree (a reputable company) and other LED bulbs sold at Home
Despot are called "60 watt replacement" bulbs while actually using 9 to 11
watts. The light fixtures presently in Sudoroom and CCL each have two
75-watt flourescent bulbs, for a total of 900 watts of light in the bocce
ball room when they're all working.
That suggests that 150 watts of LED lighting would be equivalent, which
would cost about $60 from the first aliexpress link i provided.
These lights just have wires coming out, so we would perhaps attach them
onto the metal structures that are presently holding flourescent lights
for simplicity, until we come up with something better.

We are hacking our bodies!
Do you have an MRI? Bring it to SudoRoom Tuesday night. We will be turning your scans into a 3D model, cleaning them up & eventually printing them out on our 3D printer
don’t have a scan of your own? Don’t worry we can download scans of cat skulls, dinosaur bones and dog femurs from the internet !
Learn about your body and 3D printing at the same time!!!
We will be hacking along the hardware hack night folks so there will be all sorts of creative exchange possible !!

Just saw these on CraigsList. I'll be out of town this weekend, and don't
own a truck anyway, but it would be awesome if someone could arrange to
pick these up in Alameda. $90 for three 3x5 racks of 1fx1ft lockers. Not
entirely clear whether the $90 is for all three racks, but even at $90 a
piece this would be a steal!
I'm happy to personally pay $90 for all three (in which case I'lll donate
one to the Omni), or $90 for just one rack for CCL. My eternal gratitude
and 2000 Biohacker Credits (*) to whomever volunteers to pick them up!

(*) Worth 2 beers
Have to:
- Move more pews upstairs from basement
- Mop ballroom floor
- consolidate crap on ballroom stage
- wipe down bathrooms (they are already fairly clean).
- install lighting fixture in upstairs bathroom (already procured)
- installing lighting fixture to light Shattuck-side
balcony stairscase (not yet procured).
The renter is coming at 4pm today so I need everything done before then.
Laura came yesterday and helped clean the ballroom bar area, and joel,
sean, Troy and other helped clear the ballroom of big 'ugly' stuff
(scaffolding, bookcase, wardrobe, etc)
Late notice but - any helps?
