https://sudoroom.org/blog/ the past 2 weeks have been quite energizing, and every time I see what's going on at SudoRoom I'm really excited what's really nice with the things going on lately, especially the CyberWizard project, is that it's teaching and showing people how to do stuff in a unique way. *even though there are quite a few women in our space, we aren't trivilialized, and the women aren't railroaded into working on projects for children or motherhood projects or stuff involving charity work for the needy.* it's often hard to tell if a project is initiated by a man or a woman. when i do talk to women at SudoRoom i get to see them as people first, not mother or wives, or someone's girlfriend, and to be frank, that's really hard to come by in the technology culture. the men are just as likely to do art as the women. and the men are just as likely to clean as the women or sew, which is really nice. we still have a ways to go, but i'm very grateful sudoroom is so awesome and that they tolerate people like me who are different. ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

Lost 4'x4' Mylar Bags in Sudo

by Robb Anonymous

Hi all, I brought two 4ft x 4ft mylar bags into sudo and was going to cut & tape them together to make sunshades for under the skylights as the daytime sun makes it impossible to do any work there. Unfortunately, I got sidetracked helping CCL- which took alot longer that expected - & when I returned cyberwizard was in sudo so I wasn't able to look for it. Today, I looked for them but couldn't find them. If anyone put them anywhere or took them home with them I would appreciated it if they were returned to me. I apologize for not labeling them or putting them away. Thanks robb

Sec. 8 federal low income housing applications accepted until Tues 11:59pm

by James Beatty

Anyone low income person you know who needs housing for 30% of their income can apply for Sec. 8 until Tues at 11:59 pm. This happens once in 6 years for this area. They will take 5000 applicants to be put on the wait list. Last time they took 1500 out of 15,000 applicants. So maybe one in ten chance in a lottery, maybe better. Do it on line.

Wikipedia & Journalism event next Friday

by Pete Forsyth

Hi all, I'm putting on an event next Friday, with Hacks and Hackers, entitled: *The Future of Journalism in a Wikipedia World. * http://www.meetup.com/hacksandhackers/events/224478596/ This will be a "lightweight" panel discussion, with an emphasis on conversation among the whole group. Besides me, one of the panelists should be familiar to you: Liberty Madison has just agreed to join us, along with Dan Cook (reporter/editor/Wikipedian) and Andrew Lih (journalism prof/author or The Wikipedia Revolution). The event is in SF, not too far from Noisebridge. Our host, Nomiku, will be serving fancy cocktails and hors d'oeuvres afterward. There is a $10 charge to cover ingredients; but the charge is optional for anybody who wants to just attend the panel and discussion. (Just skip the payment option when RSVPing.) I hope to see some of you there! And if anybody would like to share this on the Noisebridge list, I'd appreciate it -- since this is more in their back yard! -Pete [[User:Peteforsyth]] on the wiki

new landing page for sudoroom projects

by Romy Ilano

http://sudoroom.github.io/sudoRoom-Projects-Landing-page/ Hi I made a new prettier landing page that I linked to from the sudoroom main page i keep writing these gigantic emails talking about cool stuff we do, but it's hard to present it to thew old so even though I used to hate web design, i had fun and dove into jQuery for the sake of the team You can hack it or add to it: https://github.com/sudoroom/sudoRoom-Projects-Landing-page these pages are by no means permanent, but making stuff clear and pretty is a good way to entice people to join in on projects I'd love to see the MRI and health records stuff get going, i just don't have time to do it all myself! http://sudoroom.github.io/MRI-Art-Landing-Page/ ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

new landing page: my health my art - > to encourage more health related / hardware art projects

by Romy Ilano

http://sudoroom.github.io/MRI-Art-Landing-Page/ Goddammit ... do you know I hate web design! I really hate it! but i know one area we can improve on is marketing. I would much rather we working on making a mobile app this morning but I did it for the team. Just kidding. I made a landing page for the MRI project https://github.com/sudoroom/MRI-Art-Landing-Page we should probably do this more to get people who are remote / far way to join in .. and to toot our own horn! ;) I'll get back to 3D printing... when I have time... argh... see you later at cyberwizard today ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

inspiration: how to make a zine 3-4 minute video from the rps collective

by Romy Ilano

https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=10&v=ySwRCXKad1Y this is really cute! If anyone is wondering of ideas of what to do next, this rps collective / berkeley museum video is very charming - One of their zine workshops was to have everyone write a letter to their hometown ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com
