Jonathan Foote and Mitch Altman suggested your organization as a potential partner and I would like to sit down with your team and discuss ideas on how best to proceed. If your organization has interest in being part of this endeavor, please let me know and we can setup a meeting in the immediate future. Thank you for your time and consideration. Pipe bender in da house?

by Patrik D'haeseleer

Do we happen to have a pipe bender at Omni somewhere? Need to adjust some electrical conduit. Not absolutely required, but it'd look better with all the bends on the right places. .. Patrik

This may include drones but also ways to hack planes. There's some excitement over flying car start-ups in the bay area lately as well, although that stuff up until now has been very costly. I'm sure there are lots of amateur plane makers all over, and I know that gliders bought used are as much as very cheap used cars. I've met people who worked at big airplane companies, but to be honest, I've never seen much on open sourced flight information. Does anyone get the opportunity to hack on that stuff? It always seems to be interesting rich people. In the ultimate MFA senior thesis in college, a rich classmate bought an entire plane for a sculpture, and what can I say, that stuff looks pretty cool. I don't know the details - something about tight flight paths in the mountains, and one of the local tech billionaires pissed people off so much flying his jet loudly in the south bay that private flights are banned in Silicon Valley. But hey! It's always good to know. https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Movement/Boats Movement/Boats <https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Movement/Boats#mw-head> <https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Movement/Boats#p-search> Overview[edit <https://sudoroom.org/mediawiki/index.php?title=Movement/Boats&action=edit&s…> ] Did you know that many people at SudoRoom live in boats and hack them? Some members have discussed *autonomous boats projects* as well. Questions[edit <https://sudoroom.org/mediawiki/index.php?title=Movement/Boats&action=edit&s…> ] - People come here and are always outfitting their *houseboats.* It'd be cool to take some of that knowledge and permeate it all over... there must be so much carpentry wisdom to share! - Many members of the hacker spaces are part of the breakaway hippie cult group Cal Sailing Club <https://www.cal-sailing.org/home-sp-700/who-we-are>, which offers punk rock low cost sailing lessons and boat lending and proves that sailing "isn't just for rich people" and started with rebellious UC Berkeley students doing some kind of protest against the administration in the 1960s. - There's hella history around ferries in the Oakland bay area... https://oaklandwiki.org/Oakland_Ferry_Services_%28Historic%29 - Did anyone ever hang out with the East Bay Boat Hackers? They were considering a space somewhere in 2012. hackerspaces Link <https://wiki.hackerspaces.org/East_Bay_Boat_Hackers> - So many people die every year trying to immigrate in dangerous boats <http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2014/04/30/illegal-immigration-by-boat…> - can hackers help make lifesaving, affordable devices for these refugees? There was a UCSD mobile cell phone art project that led immigrants to water in the desert, potentially saving lives <http://www.kpbs.org/news/2010/jan/11/ucsd-artists-develop-tool-guide-illega…>. Could there be something similar for boat refugees so that people don't drown or die of thirst? Outside World[edit <https://sudoroom.org/mediawiki/index.php?title=Movement/Boats&action=edit&s…> ] - Hackers are working on some interesting autonomous boating projects <https://hackaday.io/project/8522-project-ladon> out there! New Wiki: Movement/Trains

by Romy Ilano

We need a SudoRoom wiki page on trains. Many members are huge train enthusiasts, taking the Capitol Corridor to work on the South Bay or the Caltrain. A lot of SudoRoom members regularly Amtrak their way to hacker conferences all over the country! Nerds are fierce bike and Caltrain advocates in Silicon Valley, and they are known to pelt well meaning but surprised officials with elaborate spreadsheets explaining the lower cost per rider of a bike train place than a parking spot place. It'd be cool to see more hacker advocacy, as local trains have increased service this year on the Amtrak due to higher ridership. Preliminary Wondering[edit <https://sudoroom.org/mediawiki/index.php?title=Movement/Trains&action=edit&…> ] - How do trains work? - Are trains still hackable? - What ever happened to model trains building and collecting? How will we live with ourselves until the 2019, when the model train section <http://www.deutsches-museum.de/en/exhibitions/transport/model-railway/> of the Deutsches Museum is open for the public again? - Will the USA ever get the gleaming speed trains being put up with blinding speed in China? - Has anyone ever tried to illegally hack together a new railways system in some kind of squatter/burning man area or interesting part of town? - Some people are building handmade railcars to explore abandoned railway systems at the TechShop - Neat! http://www.instructables.com/id/Railcar-Project-Techshop/ https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Movement/Trains ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

Mac Minis donation

by Carl Gorringe

Hey Sudoers, I came by Sudo Room Wednesday and dropped off a donation of 13 Mac Minis! They were donated by Liz from Mozilla. Some other hackerspaces also got some including Noisebridge. Specs: mid-2010 model, Core 2 Duo cpu, 4 or 8GB RAM, 320 GB HD (wiped clean), DVD-RW drive, HDMI video out. They are missing power cables (but they're standard and power is built-in). They'll work with the latest Mac OS - just need to be installed. Or you can install Linux. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_Mini#Specifications_3 Enjoy! -Carl G
