Hi Sudoers: The City of Oakland has an AI working group and is launching a pilot program: is anyone else here interested in joining this? The deadline is Nov. 30: …”Selected partners will work with the City [of Oakland] for a 16-week pilot period at no cost, receiving direct feedback from City staff and the opportunity to demonstrate their solutions work in a real-world government setting. Successful pilots may lead to future procurement opportunities…” Press Release: https://www.oaklandca.gov/News-Releases/ITD/AI-Pilot-Program which has a link to https://www.oaklandca.gov/Government/Departments/Information-Technology/RFI… which has a link to this .pdf: https://www.oaklandca.gov/files/assets/city/v/1/information-technology/docu… Sincerely, -Peter

AI as a tool vs. AI as work

by Peter Mui

Maybe Sudo Room could add an AI thought leadership practice? Or add it as a component to our existing and emerging programming? “...The notion that AI is a worker, not a tool, can too easily continue the devaluation of human agency that has been the hallmark of regimented work (and for that matter, education, which prepares people for that regimented work) at least since the industrial revolution. In some sense, Huang’s comment is a reflection of our culture’s notion of most workers as components that do what they are told, with only limited agency. It is only by comparison with this kind of worker that today’s AI can be called a worker, rather than simply a very advanced tool...” My old boss Tim O’Reilly on AI as a tool vs. AI as work: https://www.oreilly.com/radar/jensen-huang-gets-it-wrong/ -Peter

great touch designer workshop last night - any way to get contacts

by Romy Ilano

I had ag reat time at the touchdesigner workshop last night! there wasn't time to network - i'm interested in talking to the people who weren't involved with educating kids or women teaching kids (they ambushed me and I didn't have time to connect with the people I was interested in) Are any of those people on the list? next time I will set up a "free of women working in kids education zone" so we can connect! ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com
