Could you guys email me inspiring open source projects and why they're important?

by Romy Ilano

The prompt for this week's hardware hack night is "open source" So far I got PSUD Inkstich / inkscape Could you mention in a snippet why the open source has helped you and why? Blender is a biggie - I will put this hopefully in a blog post when I have time. https://sudoroom.org/mochi-at-hardware-hack-night-custom-cushions/ Also, next week's theme is "hidden potential" and wil feature inventors who have beat the odds to overcome stuff like child marriage, lack of formal educatio and even famine to shine! ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

More Sewcialist Software • Seamly2D

by Muirén NíSídach

https://github.com/FashionFreedom/Seamly2D https://seamly.io https://forum.seamly.io Seamly2D is pattern design software to create scalable, sharable custom-fit patterns using bespoke tailoring, haute couture, and historical pattern drafting techniques. Seamly2D saves time and improves fit by creating patterns as reusable, editable parametric CAD engineering documents. Unlike other pattern design software, Seamly2D allows designers to have complete control of the patternmaking process. Each Seamly2D pattern can read multi-size tables for boutique sizing and read individual measurement files for custom-fit. Seamly2D is open-source software released under the GPLv3+ license. Seamly2D is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. To learn more about Seamly2D on a personal level, join our friendly, active, international, multilingual user forum. On our forum you may post questions about patternmaking and Seamly2D in any language you choose, as sewing terms are rich with idioms that are not always translatable word-for-word.

Group Museum Visit at the Oakland Museum next first Sunday in October

by Romy Ilano

https://sudoroom.org/events/omca-free-first-sunday/ Hey folks, the "where is the art and math?" in the museum has gone pretty well! It's so fun! We decided to continue, and Sunday sounds like a great day to go to visit our very own Oakland museum. Sunday is the free day too - and it's a great time to go, a lot less stressy than the first Thursdays which clash with other events. Brainstorming stuff to think about, but the Oakland Museum has a cool history section with a "Silicon Valley Garage" that is really neat! *Date/Time* Date(s) - 2024/10/06 *2:00 pm - 5:00 pm* - Sign up at https://lu.ma/ml7zb8ka <https://lu.ma/ml7zb8ka> ============================= Romy Ilano romy(a)snowyla.com

common tools for common sociotechnical + environmental problems: event proposal

by unixjazz

Dear all, I have been asking around the space to see if folks would be interested in having an event for skill-sharing of "common tools" to respond to social, technical, and environmental problems. Here is a rough draft of what we came up with thus far: https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/common-tools-event-oakland I was wondering if more people would like to participate / help organize? All the details are still TBD! Best wishes, LF.

Greet for Hardware and SoftWEAR Hack Night /Fixit Clinic tonight?

by Peter Mui

Hi Sodoers: We’ve got one person (Sagnicthe) who registered for tonight’s Hardware and SoftWEAR Hack Night /Fixit Clinic at https://bit.ly/itemcheckins: Polaroid camera Mi first One of the buttons does not work I pulled it apart to figure out the problem Sagnicthe (I’ll bring in some things to work on too.) Typically on Tuesdays we have lots of new people visiting the space and it can be intimidating if you don't know anyone and don't know where to go and what to do. So can someone try to arrive early, say, 7:30 or so to greet people for Sudoroom (or sewing downstairs) and get them started on their projects? And to keep an eye out for people who present tentatively between Counter Culture Labs and Sudoroom and be welcoming to them? Extra Credit: 1) confirm that the VOIP phone number 442-252-8386 is working by dialing it 2) put the Fixit Clinic sandwich sign out on the sidewalk. Many thanks, -Peter
