Bioinformatics meeting - 7pm Sunday 11th August

by Ryan Bethencourt

Dear All, I just wanted to announce the second Bio-informatics class at Sudo room, all Sudo'ers interested in getting a deeper understanding of bio-informatics are welcome to attend. After the last successful Bio-informatics class with 21 attendees, Ron's very kindly offered to volunteer again to help teach aspiring digital biohackers the tricks of the trade :) Just as a side note, Oakland nights live is currently booking a slot on Sunday but the text on the booking says that it's on Saturday, so I'm assuming that it was an incorrect booking date. Hack on and let Ron or I know if you have any questions :) Ryan -- Ryan Bethencourt Tel: (415) 825 2705 ryan.bethencourt(a)gmail.com www.bamh1.com www.linkedin.com/in/bethencourt www.logos-press.com/books/biotechnology_business_development.php

Where is the ladder?

by Yardena Cohen

We had a wonderful ladder. It was tall, safe, had two sturdy feet. It said Rachel in blue marker all over it, because it belongs to a sudoer who let us use it for a long time. It is now missing, just when we need it for space cleaning. Did any of you take it? Does any of you know where it might be? If this got stolen we will be sad.

brain hacking on hawking

by Steve Castellotti

Hey all- My name is Steve and was involved in several Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) hacks on McHawking, the wheelchair robot, back when it lived at Noisebridge: http://www.instructables.com/id/Brain-Controlled-Wheelchair/ <http://www.instructables.com/id/Brain-Controlled-Wheelchair/> About 3-4 of us are banding together over the next several days to revisit and extend that work. Jake gave a heads up as to its new location and we're all looking forward to visiting the space (for most if not all of us it will be our first time there). I wanted to reach out and make sure we're going about this the right way, and of course invite anyone else who interested in either robotics or BCI to join us and get involved. We look to published whatever we do as open source and will try to update the Sudo Room wiki (as my quick search and review of the mailing list archives only turned up last month's introduction). We're still firming up timing but will probably drop by tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon and play Monday and Tuesday by ear. Feel free to message me on or off list if anyone is keen. Cheers! Steve

Cool Mold! [Pictures]

by Jonathan Levin

Hey Sudoroom: I made pickles this week and some fancy-looking mold grew on them. Not good for eating, but a treat for watching, so I thought you'd all like to see! It reminds me a bit of an electron micrograph of a growing axon (see here: http://www.bio.miami.edu/ktosney/images/ResHomSEMgc.jpg) Bonus points to any of you who can identify the type of fungus (I haven't been able to yet). -Jonathan

Attention Ambulance Hackers

by J.C.

Anyone interested in/on hacking in/on the ambulance? I've got a few projects in mind, chiefly in gearing up for longer trips outside the bay area (aka: Burning Man), and in the short term getting around hackerspaces in the bay area to build along the way. Right now I'm tapped on space and resources, and can only drive short distance, or not at all, so would be great to find somewhere/someone nearby to work on some mechanical issues. I'd also like to double the floor space by adding storage bins and some sort of pop-up to the roof (ideally made of solar panels) to make more of a work space, and some sort of ladder to get up to it. I've also got a 16' flatbed trailer that I can pull, and would be interested in developing ideas to make that a mobile space as well, potentially something along the lines of a parkable parklet that could be moved around. So if you've got some time, materials or capital get in touch. -- ThanX, ;+) https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Fort
